Boozing after christening

AIBU to think lowly of people who christen their children and then ship them off for the night so they can go out on the town boozing. Not just one or two but a late night hobbies. Particularly when the next day will be their very first Mother's Day and they'll collect the baby late afternoon.

Is a christening not about the child rather than an adult boozing session?

What's it to you? If the child is well-looked after and safe, what's it matter.

Every christening I've ever been to had been an excuse for a piss up. I don't think I know many devote Christians.

At my dc christening my husband was the dedicated sober parent and it was my first day/night out since baby I'd had my makeup down and hair so I drank a few too many wines bottles as I think I deserved it. But we both went home with the baby after but hubby took care of all that

Yes I agree 100% that's why after my DS christening next month we are just going for a late lunch with our immediate family who are attending the service. Find if very odd that people feel the need for a piss up as part of a religious tradition centered around babies and young children!

Unless it is a single mother? Then she might need the night- Im sure tiny baby has no idea its Mothers day the next day?

I got merrily drunk after my son's christening. Wasn't drunk drunk but definitely tipsy. The religious part meant to a lot to me, but so did sharing the joy of a new baby with my friends and family, particularly those I hadn't seen in a while. A bit like when I got married. Just because I drunk after it didn't make the vows I took any less serious or heartfelt.

A christening is just an excuse for a puss up.

It depends. In lots of Christian denominations it's common to have christenings as part of the main Sunday service, but in some they are usually done separately and often happen on Saturdays instead.

I think it's good the parents can still enjoy their lives and fun along with being parents.

If booze ups were a thing for Christenings, I would have christened my DC!

Unless they are leaving the baby in the font overnight I'm not sure what the problem is.

In my experience they tend to double up as a 'wetting the baby's head' celebration (particularly for the mothers, who often don't get out as much as fathers straight after birth due to recovery, bf etc) The religious thing is certainly taken seriously but afterwards it's a good opportunity (assuming someone's able to help out with babysitting) to celebrate the new baby with friends and family.

Most people I know who've had their child christened never set foot in a church again! In a lot (not all) of cases it's an excuse for presents and a piss up.
Didn't get ours christened because we aren't very religious, apart from Christmas, got to love Christmas!

Funerals and christenings are always the best parties in our family!

The baby won't know or care about it being christening day or mothers day.

If you don't want to look after your grandchild overnight while your son and dil go out after the christening just say no!

Why do you care? If you're the person looking after the child/ren and are not happy about it then say no. If you're not I don't see how it's your business.
