Basically my Mil just called my little boy a spoilt brat because he asked for a biscuit as he was hungry.

Walk us through the back story OP. There's got to be one.

To be honest most kids would ask for biscuits over sandwich. Wouldn't say the child was a spoilt brat over being hungry. And it wasn't the child's fault that the cake and late lunch didn't tide him over a unscheduled in avoided event.

Sounds incredibly bizarre. Your DS said "can I have a biscuit please I'm hungry" and his gran replies "you're a spoilt brat". Yes that would be incredibly unreasonable of her.

They said it would take half an hour. 1.5 hours later it came but my kids were hungry so asked grand ma for a biscuit before we got the car on the transporter - that's the spoilt brat comment (although they had asked before for a biscuit, so I would think they'd more likely offer something more substantial as I was outside with my husband putting the car and luggage into the recovery vehicle

Your mil is unreasonable. I'd have just made the kids some beans on toast or cheese and biscuits etc if there were unforeseen circumstances and they were hungry.

Still confused . Did you hear the comment? You've said you were outside putting the car on the truck? Did your ds ask for a biscuit like ' can I have a biscuit please?' Or more as in 'I want a biscuit NOW' ?

I'm going to hazard a guess that ds demanded a biscuit rather than asking

My DD told me 'mummy what does spoilt brat mean, grandma told Grandad DS was one'
I didn't hear him ask but he's boisterous, but always says please and asks loudly, but nicely

He does say 'I want a biscuit' (or whatever) grumpily and stroppy when has having a melt down but he wasn't having one - they last ages and everyone knows about it!

Ah. Maybe the grandmother was referring to the meltdowns in general rather than the biscuit request in particular.

What grandmother calls her grandchild a spoilt brat? She doesn't sound very nice. Next time you see her ask her why she said it.

So, he may have been acting a bit brattish, because he's 4 and they do sometimes, and you weren't there to witness how he actually asked? And she didn't call him a spoiled brat to his face, but referred to him as that when she probably thought she was out of earshot, as reported to you by his sister. Who if she was anything like I was as a child might just have been trying to get her little brother in trouble .

It's not a nice thing to say about a child, but it's a general turn of phrase, she was probably pretty fed up herself. I'd calm down first and then talk to her later, just saying that dd heard her refer to dd as a spoiled brat and it's not terminology you appreciate being used around them.
