AIBU.. To deliberately change the password?

DP thinks IABU, What do you think?

Next door asked DP if he could have our Wi-Fi password as they were moving in a couple of days and they've had their internet etc disconnected. DP gave the NDN our password... All fine I don't mind helping someone out for a few days.

It's now been nearly 4 weeks and their still here, using our wi-fi. DP spoke to them earlier and apparently they're now not moving for another few weeks.

AIBU to change the wifi password and if NDN wants it, they can contribute to our internet bill? I don't mind helping someone out but 2 months will be taking the piss.. What if they don't go?

I think as they haven't said they were staying longer or offering money then I would yeah. That's pretty blatant.

Bit cheeky but unless it's costing you over and above your normal amount then I'd find it hard to get annoyed about it

I wouldn't change it tbh. Not if it's only been a few weeks. If it went on past say the Easter hols, then I would. Give it til the end of April. JMO.

I am sure they will be gone by then, but if not, then just change it and say you have had the internet disconnected or something if you don't want to share your internet any longer.

I'd change it. Not only do I think they're taking the P, but if they're looking at stuff they shouldn't be/up to no good, it'll track back to your IP address. They may not be doing anything out of the ordinary on the net, but I wouldn't like the risk...

They could be looking at ANYTHING on your wifi op... you should not have allowed it in the first place imo. Definetly change it!

I wouldn't give mine out unless I knew the neighbours very well.

If they are accessing anything dodgy including illegally downloading films/TV shows (rather than Netflix streaming or the like) it will you be you who gets the nice big fine.

I would change it.

They could be downloading stuff illegally and all sorts. All on the back of your IP address.

It's gone well beyond reasonable now and I wouldn't have given them the password in the first place. They could have used their phones/tablets/tethered/done without/McDonalds wifi etc.

Unless you know them and anyone they may have given the password to, very well, you have no idea what they were putting through your wifi and if it was anything unsavoury, you would have had a hard time proving it wasn't you communicating with criminals or doing bad stuff on the dark web etc.

Change it. They could be using software to intercept data sent from your own computers and possibly accessing your computers.

They could also be sharing or downloading illegal content, buying goods with stolen card details..... List is endless. Problem would be that it al traces back to you.

If you knew them well and it was a few days then fine. If you don't and they are renting then it's a big NO every time.

OMG I would never give my wifi password to anyone. It's not a case of helping someone out, no one should ask for anyone else's password. He could have got a wifi dongle to tide him over until he moved. Sorry OP I think you f-ed up here big time.

Our neighbours done this to us when they moved in come round all nice and asked if we'd mind for a few days, said fair enough for a few days. 10 weeks later they still hadn't bothered getting internet connected ( when I log in to see my internet bill/account I can see what computers are using my wifi) so we changed the password and they actually came round asking if the internet was having trouble, no Barry I've changed they password!

If they want internet they should bloody well pay for it like the rest of the world

This is ridiculous, who is giving out their private passwords for internet access when you don't even know these people properly?!

You should have just said "sorry no, I only have x amount of data per month which I always use. But I think you can go to any phone shop and ask for a wifi dongle with some data on, that will tide you over nicely until you move".

Never give your passwords out, people!!

Like people said, if they're looking up dodgy stuff, it'll be your wifi address that will have it on the history... Definitely change it I think!

Your internet is not free so why should they have free unlimited internet?

Another vote to change it.

Some years ago a family member moved across the road from us and could (just) use our WiFi.

They downloaded so much, streaming movies and TV for about 16 hours a day, that we struggled to even load a web page.

After they moved away we had a poor service for months- because we had overused our unlimited broadband it was throttled by our ISP to prevent more overuse, so we had no reliable internet for months.
