DH and present buying!

Aaaah. He's done it again. I know this is a first world problem and people will say but my dh doesn't get me anything but he is driving me up the wall. DH has just come back from a business trip with my birthday present - Chanel no. 5. He asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I said perfume. I gave him some ideas but basically said anything except no. 5 - I got given a bottle 2 years ago and have been dutifully working my way through it. I don't like it but waste not want not. Couldn't wait to get to the end of it and actually have something I liked. He got my Chanel no. 5 "because he knew I already had it so must like it". Grrr. Yes, I know I am an ungrateful bitch but this is the only present I will get and it's another bloody 2 years of smelling of no.5 unless I can pass it off onto someone else!

eBay the Chanel and buy something you like. Give DH a permanent list of things you like ranging from inexpensive to very expensive that he can refer to every occasion he needs to buy you a gift. That's what I did fed up receiving cameras

Yes, he has form for it. I think when I say "Please don't get me x", he hears, "Bla, bla, bla x" and then just imagines that I actually want it. At least it's not as big a waste of money as some of the things he has bought!

I think you have to actually tell them the brand you want. I sent dh a link to a watch I wanted this Christmas so he knew.

Can you regift it?

I'm going to try and regift it - does it go off? I think my mistake is telling him what I DON'T want - this seems to be the only thing he hears!

Next year, try telling him you absolutely do not want a new Porsche and a week in Mauritius. See what happens.

Seriously though, he sounds very selfish. He didn't bother listening to you and probably spent all of 5 minutes picking it up in the Duty Free shop. They say it's the thought that counts. He put zero thought into it so YANBU.

Can it not be returned? If not I'd eBay it. I'm normally very much "it's the thought that counts" with gifts but there's not a lot of thought gone into getting you the exact thing you said you didn't want.

Take it into Boots and tell them someone bought it for you and you are allergic but don't have the receipt. If bet money they'd let you swap it.

If it makes you feel better, my DH got me some forerro rocher for Valentine's Day because he remember I 'felt strongly about them'. Yep, can't bloody stand them. I laughed and gave them to my friend.

I live abroad and I'm not sure whether ebay would work as well here - do people buy perfumes on ebay? I would be worried that it wasn't genuine.

heh I have had the identical situation with No.5! I now have a spray body oil thing to match as well as a purse sized spritz with three refills. THey've been in a drawer for years so presumably smell even sweeter.

I have this with dh....I have a squillion and one things in my amazon wish list but does he look? Does he buffalo!!

I really love a particular perfume ...very eighties and had stopped buying it as it is soooooo obvious and I feel it dates me!
Anyway, dh actually got it for me and found out it's been discontinued, and they are only selling EDT and not EDP...never mind!
Then I spotted some on tesco, and had vouchers so I got a spare one just in case it does vanish forever

This was all beginning of last year. My birthday is a couple of months before christmas, dh wanted to buy more perfume...I pointed out I have TWO bottles, that was the end of that

Christmas is looming...he wafts about with his "what will I buy Tondelaya for her Christmas" face on and THREE times he not so subtly mentions a nice bottle of perfume.
I brushed him off TWICE by saying "i have plenty" but really had to spell it out the third time and then got the whipped pup face! ffs

He did buy me something I wanted but purely as I had been so obvious about it that even the folks on the Space Station would have picked up hints. BUT he still thinks he thought of it. Hmm

Perfume goes for good prices on eBay; I've sold a few. Or if you can return it/exchange it then do so. I've exchanged an item at a Chanel counter before when it was bought in a different store.

I live in Italy and it is really hard to exchange goods here, even at the same store with a receipt. I don't think I would be able to exchange it unfortunately.

You need to think of lots of lovely expensive things you definitely "don't" want for next year.

I'd be annoyed too!! Can you sell it on? You wouldn't get the full value back I don't imagine but probably enough to buy yourself something you like!

God I feel your pain. I don't know how many times I have clearly said I have only 2 favourite perfumes and only want to wear these.... Without fail I get something I've never had for Christmas or birthday. I feel such a cow when I open them as inside my head I'm screaming 'ffs! How much clearer could I be!' I obviously say thank you and wear it but that feeling of dissapointment/feeling like they don't know you (over reaction on my part). So annoying op, definitely pass it on and tell him why.
