To ask about trolls

NOT a TAAT - just inspired by a certain one

Tell us about your fave MN troll

I liked the woman who had a dead husband who hand painted the childrens bedrooms, and now she was remarried she wanted all of her stepchildren to sleep in one room so that her children from her first marriage wouldn't have to give up their bedrooms even for one night!

Surely IANBU to ask what your favorite troll on MN has been?!

There was one a couple of years back who poated AIBU threads about how mean her friend was to her. For every "YANBU, what a bitch!" the friend would do something even worse, until one of them ended up screaming threats outside the OP's house as the OP breathlessly updated Mumsnet in real time. I think another friend abandoned her baby with the OP, too? That woman had shit taste in imaginary friends.

Going back a few years now, and definitely not a favourite of mine but does anyone remember Emma Bowyer? Twin pregnancy + bereavement + another pregnancy close together.

Turns out she was a troll and was unmasked.

WannaBe · 16/02/2017 21:39

Emma bowyer wasn't on here she was a known troll from elsewhere though and it was suggested that she and dizzymare could have been the same person.

midnighttrain · 16/02/2017 21:44

Apologies, I thought she had been active on this site as well as I can vaguely remember seeing her name somewhere on here but couldnt remember where.

Poorlybabysickday · 16/02/2017 22:00

Does anyone remember a few years ago on netmums Blush a poster called Amy who had a thread running for about a year about her children who had been taken away from her due to the baby falling and cutting her lip open? So many people were so invested in her, she had lawyers and social workers on the forum giving regular advice, and then the thread just disappeared and no one was allowed to discus it. I have always wondered if that was a troll!!

ElvishArchdruid · 17/02/2017 02:30

The worst I saw was when Twilight was all the rage & girls were allegedly freezing tampons as ice pops to suck on to become a vampire.

Bloodybridget · 17/02/2017 03:24

The young man who had been in care and had several long threads- he wasn't genuine, was he?

Meffy · 17/02/2017 03:43

Hang on..... was the DH is going somewhere in the middle of the night a troll?

Meffy · 17/02/2017 03:56

And. Hipster should be seen and not heard???

ElvishArchdruid · 17/02/2017 04:56

Ooh I thought Hipster was one of the MN elite?

OnHold · 17/02/2017 06:26

Hipster?

JungleInTheRumble · 17/02/2017 07:26

I really wanted to know where the DH was going in the middle of the night!

HairsprayBabe · 17/02/2017 08:09

That twilight one is very grim Envy

I always wonder how they manage to go into such detail. Sometimes doctors, school, psychologists, hospitals, lawyers etc are involved in these elaborate stories, the troll must know a fair few posters work in these professions so know how the system works when you have to access them and would surely know that the troll was lying, but I've seen these people get suckered in too (or appear to).

GoesDownLikeACupOfColdSick · 17/02/2017 08:28

Jelly - I suspect a bit of google will go a long way if nobody digs too deeply underneath it. I once met a guy online who was an oncologist. We bonded when his sister was hit by a car and put in a coma shortly after I told him my DM had been in a coma after a stroke. Then he lost a 3 year old patient. Then his best friend's dad had a stroke. Then his "friend" stalked my friend online and found her and turned up outside my office with flowers to give me. She said it was so obvious it was him pretending to be his own mate.

It was all so convincing until I started asking more questions. Turned out he was actually a mobile phone salesman. With a fiancée Hmm

Anyway, point being, I think these people can sometimes have a bit of knowledge or acquire it just enough to sound convincing for a while. It's all very odd!

DesolateWaist · 17/02/2017 08:30

Oh I was following the DH in the middle of the night one! What happened?!

It ended up in The Sun. Then HQ came and said it was a PBP and took it down.
I wonder if it may have been a journalist making it up in the hope that someone would come on with a story of their own which they could then publish.

VintagePerfumista · 17/02/2017 08:37

I got a PM from Beesimo begging me not to unmask her in real life as during the "Lass 1 climbing over the fence" shenanigans a friend of mine did a quick google and found her writing reviews for what seemed to be her own eatery.

I am also real life friends with someone who has Stranded on her FB. I asked diplomatically how my friend knew her. They were working in the same field and the same story was told in real life as on here....

I noted (as I'm sure so did many others) that the DWP story has been somewhat rewritten over time. Particularly her last (AFAIK) Big Adventure In The Middle Of The Night with all of MN on the panic button on her behalf....

HairsprayBabe · 17/02/2017 08:41

It is really scraping the bottom of the barrel if journos are making up troll threads to fish for stories, that is worse than just pinching a whole thread to me.

OP posts:
BillyDaveysDaughter · 17/02/2017 08:43

Oh I wondered what happened to the DH going off in the night. Never saw a deletion message, it just vanished shortly after the Sun rag ran it...

wannabestressfree · 17/02/2017 08:44

The boy who was in care and lonely at uni isn't real? I am crap at this.....

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 17/02/2017 08:46

I've seen reviews by Beesimo on Trip Advisor, usually for cafes in the York area.

I think Gabby Logon was my favourite ever troll, where did he go?

Oh, and is Claig a troll? And has he/she been banned too?

HairsprayBabe · 17/02/2017 08:51

Was the username something like gayladatchristmas? I knew there was something off with him but everyone was fawning over him so I didn't say anything at risk of being hounded down.

Everything he said just seemed more and more unbelievable and he refused to take anyones suggestions Hmm

OP posts:
VintagePerfumista · 17/02/2017 08:52

Claig isn't a troll.

Maudlinmaud · 17/02/2017 08:59

Hairspray that poster was banned, but lots of mners love him and are in contact with him through fb.

QuercusQuercus · 17/02/2017 08:59

Is this kind of stuff allowed now? I've been away for a while, 2 years ago this thread would have disappeared in a puff of smoke by now Grin

Anyway, there was a V obscure thread once in which a guy was complaining about his wife not doing enough housework. I believe it featured the phrase 'soft furnishings' a lot. Then halfway through a poster with a 'name/number' username and no posting history (imagine!) appeared and started saying that as a woman she totally agreed the OP's wife should do more with the soft furnishings. By the end of the thread everyone had made the OP and was chatting cushions in a passive-aggressive fashion.

That thread contained my first ever deletion
