...is a bit of an areshole?

He's so competitive against his own child, to the point where he's muttering under his breath as the kid sleeps just because he has to have the last word.

We get it, big man. You've got longer arms and you're better at this than your toddler. Well done you. Biscuit

YES! I really dislike that book. FFS, why is he continually insisting he is bigger and better.
Then even at the end, he has to have the last word. Ugh.
We were given a copy and I passed it on at the earliest opportunity.
Phew. I feel better having got that off my chest!

drivingmisspotty · 11/02/2017 08:56

Haha!

That book though. I know it is meant to be a heart warming modern classic. But there is no storyline. It is so dull. And twee.

dowhatnow · 11/02/2017 09:00

I love that book. Used similar sayings with my DC, but I see your point Grin

Marmite27 · 11/02/2017 09:01

Yes absolutely!

Marmite27 · 11/02/2017 09:04

Dc's favourite ted is a pair of nutty hares, we make sure the little one gets his way sometimes and don't read the book at it makes me cross Angry

user1471517900 · 11/02/2017 09:04

So many red flags. Sounds like Mrs Hare should LTB.

Butttons · 11/02/2017 09:04

Yes!! That book is all about one-upmanship. Little nut brown hair just wants to express his feelings and big nut brown hair trumps him at every pass. I hate it!

MetalMidget · 11/02/2017 09:06

It reminds me of Competitive Dad off the Fast Show!

dowhatnow · 11/02/2017 09:08

But it's such a lovely book...

TupperwareTat · 11/02/2017 09:10

YANBU he is an arrogant little shit.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 11/02/2017 09:33

Dh managed to "lose" our copy of that book. When I asked he just said "competitive dad". Dd never liked it much anyway.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 11/02/2017 09:35

Yeah totally.
Luckily our copy is a pop up edition and we have to be "very careful as it's so beautiful" I have hidden it

RatOnnaStick · 11/02/2017 09:37

Oh god DS2 brings these books home from nursery at every sodding opportunity. He really likes the summer and the winter ones. I hate them. So boring.

Chippednailvarnishing · 11/02/2017 09:38

Well DD loves me more than pasta.

Gavel.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 11/02/2017 09:59

We quite like the book, DS loves me to the end of the Milky Way & back again thanks to it Grin

liquidrevolution · 11/02/2017 10:08

YANBU I loathe that book with a passion.

One upmanship at its worst dressed up as twee shite.

Love ten little fingers though Smile

Crumbs1 · 11/02/2017 10:12

Used to be one of my favourites. The adult children still quote " I love you to the moon" and expect me to say " Ah but I love you to the moon.....and back".
I can't see it as competitive rather that there is nothing on earth that exceeds a good parent's love for their child. Mine found it reassuring and knew it was a way of talking about unconditional love. They know still our love is unconditional.

cardibach · 11/02/2017 10:16

I'm with crumbs. It's not one upmanship - the little one thinks he's 'won' (I don't even see it as a competition) and the big one is just pointing out nobody could love anything/one more than he loves his child.

Bluegrass · 11/02/2017 10:25

Is their sex ever specified, haven't read it for a while?

Questioningeverything · 11/02/2017 11:02

If you think this books dull give 'hug' a read 🙄
