What he's basically done is put a huge damper on her business. Nobody will touch the line for fear that any changes will end up with huge negative publicity

Is this the Streisand effect?

Case in point - the wall

I'm still sticking by my theory of a previous thread that no actual new wall will be built. Companies will be given contracts and money, press photos will be taken, but nothing will actually happen. If anyone questions it they will just say they are working hard on the invisible bit of the wall.

GingerIvy · 08/02/2017 21:01

ami I posted something earlier today with exactly that term - the streisand effect - related to her getting upset over public pictures of her house which only made them more widespread. Although I think it was Sen Warren being silenced that it was referring to.

amispartacus · 08/02/2017 21:01

His tweets also have effect on other companies - so why would anyone want to be associated with Trump and the US Government - look at what happened to share prices when he was tweeting about how unfair the contracts were.

And then - his tweets affect countries as well. They affect internal politics of foreign countries.

Imagine what would happen to UK brands if Trump tweeted something negative about a trade deal?

But isn't the person in the back room thinking wtf are you asking for my social media passwords? Don't you know I can just lie? Haven't you already been looking at all my social media chat anyway? Is this some kind of weird head f@&£ because I have no idea why you are asking this question??

Not sure where your trying to place me in this argument, I have no where said it was a good policy, I have said it will not be required under "normal" background checks, the outrage(IFYSIM) is misdirected over this, is not that they "could/may" ask for said passwords of people coming from people outside of the 5 eyes network, but the fact that they don't need them for everyone else.

Also, why wouldn't you ask somebody already under suspicion for access to their social media accounts now?

Presume a scare tactic and just as a legal rubber stamp as to what they can already do.. I mean there are people within this thread already scared of the youth being "manipulated" by the nebulous "alt-right" on the internet, so the sites you visit, facebook likes has already become politicised

GingerIvy · 08/02/2017 21:05

Bigly I suspect there will be recordings and notes made of meetings, and lawsuits if needed. Her products are on a growing list of companies that the public is pushing businesses to distance themselves from. TJMaxx is doing so now as well.

I'll be interested to see if, as recommended, Nordstrums files a lawsuit regarding this. I imagine it will depend on how her father continues with tweets.

cozietoesie · 08/02/2017 21:05

What would you say is a good policy then, lurker? Smile

It seems a shame if someone is going to say you are trying to inflate a story when all you are doing is showing someone the story is true.

As your big on semantics how is a report of "could/may" be true.. you seem to keep dodging the fact that they do not even require these powers for any western citizen..

If you can step of the anti trump hate train for a while, explain that again if this policy is bad, you pointed out you know the legal powers of the Governments, so sell it to me within that frame work how its bad.. and not contradict yourself in trying to suppress "alt-right" news on facebook

Justanotherlurker · 08/02/2017 21:16

What would you say is a good policy then, lurker?

Bloody hell, talk about being rounded on, I said it was non issue, you tell me why it's bad considering the existing powers that the UK gov already have over you, and we will go from there...

cozie I found it interesting that they defended stopping her, however, others read that letter, said much the same thing, however they were men and the GOP didn't stop them. And they didn't mention what the men said - even though it was the same.

It appears the whole sexist idea that a strong woman = aggressive/negative whereas a strong man - powerful/positive is still alive and kicking in Congress. Not a huge shock.
