The best way to debate with people like him is calmly with facts.

There is a video of the committee hearing online.

It's 5 hours long though. But what he said will be on there.

Im not sure if your purposely trying to inflate this story, the comittee meeting is still full of "may/could" etc, I dont think you realise what powers they already have, this isnt some tin foil hat scenario anymore. The UK gov passed the snoopers charter recently without any opposition, net neutrality is under threat all done under the guise of "protecting the children", the snoopers charter was just a rubber stamp of legality that they have already been doing and lumped in a bit more back onto the ISP.

It is nothing more than a scare tactic, it would never be used against any western citizen as the data is already there, if a person is being asked for Social media accounts they are already in a backroom under severe suspicion....

woman12345 · 08/02/2017 19:51

I thought she did great. Did you hear what he said about rape, the usual shite. Interesting. This has been going on across the world in bedrooms on children's laptops. And it was known about.

amispartacus · 08/02/2017 19:52

Im not sure if your purposely trying to inflate this story

No - someone said it may be fake news.
The best way to see if it is fake news is to go to the source and see what he said.
Then you can see what he said and decide if it fake news.

I dont think you realise what powers they already have, this isnt some tin foil hat scenario anymore

Do you know what the word 'patronising' means?

I have been politically informed for ages and am more than aware of the powers Governments have.

But thanks for explaining to me what powers they have because you have assumed I don't know what they are.

See this is why pp need to protest against Trump in the UK as these alt right groups here see him as a hero and want something similar here .4 million pp voted for UKIP in the last election. That's a lot of pp and not to be discounted.

amispartacus · 08/02/2017 19:56

That's a lot of pp and not to be discounted

I wonder how many people would like to be associated with him and his views?

He was certainly worked up - and he's convinced many people in UKIP agree with him.

"Here's a form for a Syrian refugee, I hope he doesn't rape you'

I wonder how concerned he is with women's rights and VAWG?

Note the paranoid & Mafia-style language: business dropping brand is "attack", AG disagreeing re the law is a "betrayal". Pure demagoguery.

woman12345 · 08/02/2017 19:58

Agree Destiny and seems strange when children are reported to authorities for taking toy guns to school,
www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/feb/01/children-detained-toy-gun-prevent-strategy
when these middle class white teens are being groomed by these types.

To chip in to the debate about internet tracking about which I know zilch, but I presume alt right is tracked. So why have children being indoctrinated by organisations which advocate breaking laws, not been protected?

amispartacus · 08/02/2017 20:01

So why have children being indoctrinated by organisations which advocate breaking laws, not been protected

Now that's a great question.

I wished she'd have stayed calm (and yes, I hate that word) but just asked him what he was doing about VAWG in the UK - seeing as he was so concerned with women's rights.

But it must be so hard staying calm like that.

No - someone said it may be fake news.

Well it is effectively "fake news", I said myself it was overblown and the fact that Huf-po jumped on it doesn't add any credence.

Also I wasn't being patronising, this is me being patronising, I have worked in tech for over 20 years, work with Petabytes of data daily and seen first hand the rise of harvesting and manipulation of data, I have worked for Google, Microsoft and MIT ... [smug], so yeah its a non story... and no hufpo article is going to convince me otherwise

woman12345 · 08/02/2017 20:11

ami He was gish galloping( I am so proud of my new word Grin) she did better than I would have, but have to ask why channel 4 sets up interview like that, knowing that your cross wee white boy is going to behave like.

So, they've known of this, They produced the 'Go home' bus posters, they allowed an illegal UKIP advert, and they sure as fuck knew that children across the world have been giggling and Breitbart, getting Britain First funny pictures and then graduating to reading Mein Kampf.

They knew, and May is 'investigating extreme right wing' now she's had her coup. Interesting, same in US and France, and fuck knows where else. They've stolen a fucking generation.

This is also politicization of the Navy SEAL's life in order to encourage self-censorship.

It'll be interesting to see how that's gotten around.

I also noted the irritation when both "piped in" questions were about sanctuary cities defying the EO.

You assumed I wasn't aware of what powers Govt have. When you assume someone isn't aware of something, that is called patronising.

FlyMeToTheMoonLiterally · 08/02/2017 20:25

I completely take back my statement I agree the fact that checking their passwords at the airport may be a made up story

Just spoke to my brother about this who is an Software Developer and understands all the tech terms you are using Lurker, he says this:

The snoopers charter merely collects data, the security services still need to investigate individuals or people who are suspected of terrorism and 99.9% of people will be lost in the noise, the difference with the situation over the past couple of weeks is people have been targeted not based on affiliation with terrorists but merely based on a stamp in their passport, this blunt instrument will fundamentally result in the interrogation and invasion of privacy of a group of people who are pre-dominantly unrelated to terrorism.

He also said:

If the individuals were already under investigation why would they need to ask for their social media details?

and

He calls bullshit that entering from one of those countries is an indicator of terrorist intent.

Justanotherlurker · 08/02/2017 20:30

Did Kelly say 'that people from those 7 countries could possibly have to hand over their passwords' ?

If you are aware of the already legal powers of US gov along with 5 eyes then you would be also aware that it will not be used on everyday citizens, as I said if this is even enacted and it gets to point where they are asking for social media passwords then that person would already be under deep suspicion, therefore its a non story...

If you don't like Huf-Po, try www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/02/08/dhs-chief-says-us-might-ask-visa-applicants-for-social-media-passwords.html

That's you being patronising now, I have no interest the cesspit of FoxNews, just because I call out huffpo doesn't make me some right wing idiot.

No - that is you explaining to someone what job you have done.

No that was me giving some background info as to why I can see its a total non story and you are misplacing your outrage

amispartacus · 08/02/2017 20:32

I think using the death of a soldier in politics is disgraceful. Sadly people die in operations all the time - if people are shamed and told they are disrespecting the dead when they question something, that is disgraceful. It silences and can lead to more mistakes.

The quote
