To think Stephen Wakefield was ... odd

  • he only ever dated high school girls.
  • he used to comment about his mother and his sisters' beautiful figures Hmm
  • did he have any friends at all?

Jog my memories as I remember finding him most peculiar even as a daft teen myself, but I can only remember the above as to why.

Who?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/02/2017 17:03

Who is he?

ineedamoreadultieradult · 05/02/2017 17:03

Never heard of him?

Highalert · 05/02/2017 17:04

Who is he?

teaforbreakfast · 05/02/2017 17:04

Grin Sweet Valley High.

And erm ... you don't have to reply Grin

Is this somebody you knew?

ShatnersBassoon · 05/02/2017 17:06

Oh, that's a bit niche.

MumBod · 05/02/2017 17:06

Aah...I was more of a Sweet Dreams reader myself.

CaoNiMa · 05/02/2017 17:07

His weirdness was most apparent when he dated a girl who looked like his dead girlfriend - Tricia Martin, whose sister Betsy was the school bike, IIRC.

OurBlanche · 05/02/2017 17:07

But we do have to reply... this is AIBU.

And YABVVU to suggest some invidious stuff and forget to tell us he is fictional Smile

EB123 · 05/02/2017 17:07

Haha I knew who you meant. Loved Sweet Valley High. Have you read the book that came out a few years ago about them as adults?

teaforbreakfast · 05/02/2017 17:08

I vaguely remember that one, although all things considered he did move on from Tricia with indecent haste. With another high school girl

Soz Blanche

I thought you'd ALL KNOW! Work of incredible fiction, and all ...

Turned out to be gay didn't he? Affair with Aaron Dallas

EB123 · 05/02/2017 17:13

Yep he was gay.

CatACombs · 05/02/2017 17:13

I mostly only read sweet valley twins.
In those the twins just hated him for existing, I think.

CaoNiMa · 05/02/2017 17:15

The recent Sweet Valley High book is RUBBISH. Rubbish, I tell you. So badly written.

I can remember the SVH characters so well. It's like they're seared into my memory. And the Spanish split-level house (what even is that?), the gold lavaliere necklaces, the Dairi Burger.

BeyondUnderthinking · 05/02/2017 17:17

Yep. He was so in love with Jessica/Alice

BeyondUnderthinking · 05/02/2017 17:18

...perfect size ten figures too, cao Grin

teaforbreakfast · 05/02/2017 17:18

Cao

As opposed to the great skill of earlier works Wink

I haven't a clue what the Spanish split level house is either! But it was GOOD.

Don't forget Casey's Place and the pizza place which begins with a G and i can't remember it.

I love the bloggers that read them as adults and rip them apart.

teaforbreakfast · 05/02/2017 17:21

I've just discovered it's Steven Wakefield, by the way.

Sorry, Steven.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 05/02/2017 17:23

I don't think I read those. I loved the Babysitters Club though.

CaoNiMa · 05/02/2017 17:24

Well, I mean, the originals weren't exactly Dostoevsky, but they had a certain something. At least they flowed relatively well in terms of narrative and characterisation. Kind of. Grin

Looking back, they were pretty dire in terms of stereotypes. The "fat kid" (Lois Waller!), the bookish/hippy ones who wrote for the Oracle, the rich ones.

I always used to like Jessica more, but I was totally an Elizabeth.

BalloonSlayer · 05/02/2017 17:26

Oh I clicked because I thought it was going to be an MMR thread Blush

But that's Andrew Wakefield innit?
