To think Stephen Wakefield was ... odd

  • he only ever dated high school girls.
  • he used to comment about his mother and his sisters' beautiful figures Hmm
  • did he have any friends at all?

Jog my memories as I remember finding him most peculiar even as a daft teen myself, but I can only remember the above as to why.

Guido's! The pizza place was Guido's,

Trifleorbust · 05/02/2017 17:30

I knew! Yes, what an oddball. Grin

teaforbreakfast · 05/02/2017 17:32

Guidos, that was it! And where was the posh restaurant they used to go when celebrating not being murdered or something?

Ah loved sweet valley. But preferred cheerleaders !

CaoNiMa · 05/02/2017 17:36

Argh I forgot what that restaurant was called. Didn't Liz go there when she was bailing Jessica out, when Jess had set up dates with two guys on the same night? (I think it was in "Who's Who?"). Liz wasn't impressed by the guy pretending to be French (Pierre du Lac!), and quizzed him using her superior intellectual skillz. Jess, presumably, couldn't tell a French guy from a Yank...

(I feel slightly over-invested at this point Grin)

Box Tree Cafe?

Don't forget Kelly's and the Shady Lady Grin

I remember being confused by the American terminology. The twins' dad was an "attorney", which I didn't know meant lawyer. In my head (bear in mind that I was about 9 when I was reading this) an "attorney" was some sort of manual labourer, so it confused me when Ned wore suits to work.

Did anyone ever read the "historic" ones, about the twins' ancestors? They were brilliant.

Obsidian77 · 05/02/2017 17:51

You're so right op I always thought he was a bit skulky and drippy. Much preferred Bruce Patman Wink
I loved the books when I was young but suspect they wouldn't withstand some critical evaluation.

Blazedandconfused · 05/02/2017 18:18

I loved this books, aged 10. Bloody hell, 22 years ago. I remember starting to write one myself.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 05/02/2017 18:22

I thought you were talking about that doctor that faked his MMR/autism papers Blush

As you were!

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 05/02/2017 18:25

He was so mean about Billie playing guitar! Didn't she get pregnant? I think this was when they were all at the same uni...

glitterazi · 05/02/2017 18:26

Oh wow, knew I recognised the name on reading the title but couldn't place it!
Sweet Valley High, loved those books.
Read most of the earlier ones, the older ones got more and more unbelievable though.
Oh, and just how much bad luck can two sixteen year olds have?!

AlakazamAlakazoom · 05/02/2017 18:32

Balloon Another one who turned up expecting to discuss the Dr who first claimed the link between autism & MMR Blush

teaforbreakfast · 05/02/2017 18:32

Does he fancy his sisters too? Grin

thedairiburger.com/the-full-list/

The best website ever. I was wetting my pants reading some of this. I used to be obsessed with the books.

allchattedout · 05/02/2017 18:38

Extract from thedairiburger.com:

"Jessica is an insane, manipulative cunt and she hates that Liz has any other friends but her (but she can hang out with Lila and Cara and the cheerleaders, and it’s okay). So she finds the letters to Enid’s old boyfriend and spreads it around school. Liz is the only one Enid told, so she gets mad at Liz and makes her cry about a thousand times. The funny thing is, the rumor is all over school! People actually give a shit that SOME GIRL WRITES LETTERS! Again, this is social suicide for Enid, because everyone in SVH are the uptight moral police."

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 05/02/2017 18:41

Never read much of SVH but I can help with the architecture! I have spent a lot of time in split level homes

A split level home was a style of single family house extremely popular in the USA and Canada (and other places) especially in the 1960's but starting after WWII. Usually you would enter from the street (driveway) and be immediately faced with two short sets of stairs - one going down to a finished basement and one going up to the main living areas of the house. Bedrooms are up again from the main level.

Wikipedia probably explains it better than me: split level home

This blog makes me giggle: shannonsweetvalley.com/2016/11/14/home/

I loved the trilogies. There's one where the twin's doppelgänger tries to murder them. They led such busy lives Grin

CaoNiMa · 05/02/2017 19:19

Ooh thanks for that Hearts! Now it all makes sense!

StarkintheSouth · 05/02/2017 20:45

YES
Always coming home from SVU to get Alice to do his laundry and dating Tricia's lookalikes... twice.
I loved the books as a kid and I confess I have read Confidential and the novellas too Blush
