to ban Horrid Henry?

I have 3 sons who love watching Horrid Henry. But I hate Horrid Henry. I think he's a horrible little brat of a boy who speaks horribly to his parents, does all manner of horrible things, but always seems to come out on top. One of my kids in particular has started speaking like Horrid Henry and it drives me crazy.

WIBU to stop them watching it just because I don't like it? I know I'm the parent and it's ultimately up to me to decide what they can and can't watch, but am I over-reacting and Horrid Henry is all just harmless fun? And their TV watching usually goes in phones, they obsessively watch something for a wile then switch to something else. So should I just ride out the Horrid Henry phase? It's going to be truly Horrid in our house for a while if I get rid of it.

I think you need to start watching Horrid Henry a little more objectively op. Perfect Peter is the one you need to watch out for.

It's obviously that Henry is only acting out because his parents don't like him very much and that's how he gets their attention. I like him, much better than sneaky Peter Wink

Horrid Henry IS banned in this house.
I found DS1s behaviour got a lot worse after watching.
He is allowed to watch it very rarely but I watch with him with a running commentary of 'oh that's not nice' 'why did he do that-that's mean!' and if acts like Horrid Henry he is not aloud to watch it that week.
Peter is a bellend too

It's banned in this house. I found my sons behaviour was worse after watching it. Very occasionally I will watch an episode with him with a running commentary of oh that's not nice behaviour, we don't act like that do we!

Horrid Henry behaviour is awful, he is nasty and a bully. He is rude, and obstinate, and I can't stand him. As for his parents pathetic disapline methods, sighing "oh don't be horrid, Henry", it does not work! He needs a good dressing down. Mabey if Horrid Henry was nicer, he would be treated better, rather like Perfect Peter Wink.

It's the constant shrieking in it that gets on my tits. Also I don't like the way calling someone a girl or dressing in girls clothes is frequently used in the storylines as a way of tormenting others.

Wow, some of the comments on here are really surprising.

It's discouraged in my house because I find it quite....triggering, for want of a better word. Henry is obviously the family scapegoat, Peter is the golden child. I actually find it a bit heartbreaking. Do some people really not have that take on it?

My kids and DH definitely agree that Henry gets a rotten deal.

Hmm, I have just deleted 220 episodes of Horrid Henry off the digibox and cancelled their automatic recording for the future.
There's going to be a riot when they realise.

I banned Horrid Henry too. Whether your sympathies sit with him or Peter, neither of them are people I wanted my DCs emulating.

I feel bad for Henry, he always gets in trouble on accident and is constantly called horrid.

I hated it, luckily my DS did too.

He did however enjoy "Ed, Edd and Eddy" which was on cartoon network in the early years of this century. I had to ban that after he started mimicking the very aggressive speech of one of the eponymous characters.

I thought he was a little shit. All the kids are pretty horrible in those cartoons.

I wasn't too impressed when someone gave DS a copy of the Beano and the storyline was around one kid being on the receiving end for bring effeminate and playing chess - oh and being smart at school. Is it just me or was it like this in the 70s?

Henry is a boy misunderstood. Peter is far worse. Watch a little closer and you will see that in actual fact Henry is bot a bad boy. His parents treat him dreadfully and clearly show favouritism towards Peter.

Nope - brat. As the youngest in a large pack of kids I'm pretty good at spotting the trouble makers and the kids who just want to be left alone!

I don't mind the books so much, its more his tone of voice and the way he speaks to people on the tv show I hate. And my kids are starting to copy him so it has to stop.

I don't mind it. I feel sorry for Henry and he's quite resourceful even if he is naughty.

I think rather than banning it I would explain to them that Horrid Henry is a character who doesn't behave particularly well and it's fine to watch it but it's not fine to copy his behaviour. And that if they do copy it then they are showing that they aren't really old/sensible enough to know not to. Kids will always come across 'naughty' characters on the TV, in books and on the playground. You can't stop that but you can teach them to take responsibility for their own behaviour.

I always hated Perfect Peter, HH was OK.

DD liked the show. (wistfuly remembers when DD was not plugged in to an ipod 24/7)
