To ask if I can make a dish with cinnamon and onions?

Just cooking supper and put three teaspoons of ground cinnamon with the onions rather than cumin. Angry

Am I doomed, should I just chuck it or is it salvageable?

Oh goodness. Chuck it and start again. It sounds almost as bad as the cherry pancakes a friend had that were cooked in garlic butter. Sweet and savoury together in a bad way.

fishonabicycle · 16/01/2017 17:33

Something moroccan? I think tagine has cinnamon in ...

YesThisIsMe · 16/01/2017 17:36

Lamb cinnamon and apricot casserole. Delicious. Obvs only works if you have lamb chunks. Or look for a tagine recipe.

SenoritaViva · 16/01/2017 17:36

I'll look up a tagine! I think it may need to go though!

With diced lamb, sweet peppers, potatoes and tomatoes perhaps?

D0nnaLyman · 16/01/2017 17:37

Moussaka??

CommunionHelp · 16/01/2017 17:38

Tagine! Some curries also have cinnamon in. Don't throw it!

ReasonsToBeModeratelyHappy · 16/01/2017 17:39

You have been bad, that is very wrong. Don't do it again :-)!

CommunionHelp · 16/01/2017 17:39

If you got chicken, chick peas, lamb, or pretty much any vegetables you can make something lovely!

What have you got in?

Indigo89 · 16/01/2017 17:40

Mousakka! Mmm.

Eebs · 16/01/2017 17:41

I made a tagine yesterday with equal parts cinnamon and cumin. It was absolutely delicious. I put cinnamon in chillies as well.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 16/01/2017 17:50

cant you stick them in a colander and rinse, then fry again with garlic and cumin? take most of the taste away, depends on what it was you were attempting to cook in the first place, can you tell us what you had planned?

ShowMePotatoSalad · 16/01/2017 17:50

Cinnamon is not in itself sweet. It just goes with sweet things. Which makes it the perfect spice to use with lamb, apricots, sweet peppers, etc.

If you used a mixed spice mix, it would probably have cinnamon in it too. There's no need to chuck it out.

P1nkP0ppy · 16/01/2017 17:53

Not a good mix op 😖
Put the onions in a colander and give them a good wash under the tap?

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/01/2017 17:56

Vij's chicken curry www.vijs.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Recipe-Vij-Family%E2%80%99s-Chicken-Curry.pdf has cinnamon in it. Not three tablespoons though. Bleugh.

bunnylove99 · 16/01/2017 18:00

Chuck it. Not worth ruining a whole dinner for the sake of 10 mins and a couple of onions. I can't stand cinnamon in savoury food. The taste memory of a Moroccan chicken pie I made 10 years ago haunts me to this day! Absolutely vile - and that only had about a teaspoon of the stuff.

ratspeaker · 16/01/2017 18:06

Stifado

Huldra · 16/01/2017 18:10

I always put cinnamon in chilli. If say using 2 tsp of cumin I will put 1 of cinnamon.

SenoritaViva · 16/01/2017 18:13

I have chickpeas and sweet potatoes and spinach (i was adding coconut milk to this), plus chillies, garlic etc

OP posts:
Bluntness100 · 16/01/2017 18:15

Well you can make it, the question is will anyone eat it?

Drown it in garlic, and chilli,,they will never know,😝

Huldra · 16/01/2017 18:17

Onion, chickpeas, sweet potatoes, cumin, garlic, chilli powder, frsh chilli, can of tomatoes.
Any carrots, peppers or mushrooms if you have them.
Squeeze of lemon or fresh coriander at the end if you have it.

BratFarrarsPony · 16/01/2017 18:17

I always put a flat teaspoon of cinnamon in bolognese. Gives it a Greek taverna flavour.

SenoritaViva · 16/01/2017 18:17

I'm quite tempted by those that say chuck it, not sure I'm a savoury cinnamon fan...
That said I've run out of onions and I have no ground cumin as this whole episode happened because I picked up wrong packet in supermarket and didn't think to check it again today!

OP posts:
SenoritaViva · 16/01/2017 18:19

@Huldra that sounds quite good, I'd forgotten that I was putting tomatoes in too..,
Out of cumin but I can grind down some cumin seeds...

Don't chuck! Cinnamon makes Chili amazing!
