To suspect I don't need to be back here in A&E again...

For the kind folk who assisted with my last thread, no I'm not back with my dad after the weekend's dramas, instead I'm here with ds1 (14) who shut his finger in a door at 10pm.

I told the operator he had pins&kneedles in the finger and they sent me here. He says the pins&needles is fading.

I'd be grateful for any insights or advice. I feel silly being here.

In fact the pins and needles have now gone. Should we go home?

RigbySM · 10/01/2017 23:20

Yes. Definitely

haveyourselfamerry · 10/01/2017 23:21

Go home?

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 10/01/2017 23:21

You're there now. I would stay. DD shut her finger in a door and they thought she had chipped a bone.

haveyourselfamerry · 10/01/2017 23:22

And had she?
Did hers carry on hurting?

OP posts:
Foxysoxy01 · 10/01/2017 23:23

What is actually wrong with his finger?
You say pins and needles that have now got better, better because there is no feeling now or better with full feeling in hand/fingers?
Anything else?

haveyourselfamerry · 10/01/2017 23:24

Full feeling just "slightly wierd"

Haudyerwheesht · 10/01/2017 23:24

Why did you ring 111?

Id go home yes. Tbh unless it was misshapen or bleeding profusely for example I can't imagine id have gone.

haveyourselfamerry · 10/01/2017 23:26

When he did it I think it was numb because he said it felt like the finger was far away even though he was touching it. Then after a few minutes we got pins and needles. Now those have gone unless he presses it hard.

OP posts:
Foxysoxy01 · 10/01/2017 23:27

Can he elaborate on weird at all?

How does it feel different to normal?

Does the hand/fingers look normal? Any swelling? Lumps? Cuts etc

haveyourselfamerry · 10/01/2017 23:27

Well I rang 111 cos he was crying and still in pain. I just wanted advice really.

OP posts:
GreatFuckability · 10/01/2017 23:28

i'd go home, i think.

haveyourselfamerry · 10/01/2017 23:28

It's the middle finger

To suspect I don't need to be back here in A&E again...

haveyourselfamerry · 10/01/2017 23:30

He says wierd means swollen and that there's a different bump you can feel on the outside.
On the inside it feels heavy&shot.

OP posts:
haveyourselfamerry · 10/01/2017 23:31

Heavy&hot

Well if circulation is fine I'm not sure they'd do anything tonight anyways? My (non medical) advice would be go home, give a painkiller, maybe ice it and get some sleep.

Foxysoxy01 · 10/01/2017 23:33

To be honest it doesn't look like an A&E job but nobody can really tell other than by looking/feeling it in the flesh iyswim or an X-ray if possible fracture.

It really depends on how much it hurts, if there is any swelling, if there is numbness in arm/hand/fingers still if he has movement of hand/arm/fingers etc etc.

I would say depending on how long you have been waiting so far you may as well be seen by triange and see what they say.

Guavaf1sh · 10/01/2017 23:34

Go home

haveyourselfamerry · 10/01/2017 23:35

Thanks all esp Foxy,

We had triage quite quickly -she just said wait for a dr. But she didn't really look at it.

OP posts:
haveyourselfamerry · 10/01/2017 23:37

It's "sore but not painful."
Do you think 111 said that because they can't know if pins&needles will turn to numb?

OP posts:
haveyourselfamerry · 10/01/2017 23:41

Hopeful bump.
This is the trouble with obeying orders....

OP posts:
haveyourselfamerry · 10/01/2017 23:44

Ok, even mumsnet is bored of his finger. We're coming home.

OP posts:
Hawkmoth · 10/01/2017 23:46

You can't really know if it's broken or not. My DS hid a broken finger for two days because he though I would stop him going to football. Only gave it away by showing off the bruising. I broke my finger and the pain made me cry for hours before my dad took me to hospital. Funny things fingers.

Hawkmoth · 10/01/2017 23:47

Is it swollen compared to the other hand?

PovertyPain · 10/01/2017 23:48

I'm usually one of those people who thinks ffs when I hear some of the reasons people go to A&E, however, you have been advised to go to A&E, I would suggest you stay. I know it feels BETTER but let the doctor look at it. You've nothing to lose, however if you go home and there is an underlying problem, your son may have problems later. Hope you're seen soon.
