Or peel it first?

Eat it!

EvansOvalPies · 09/01/2017 15:08

When I was a very young child I was an extremely fussy eater and my grandmother used to sit and peel and deseed my grapes (in the days before seedless). How long must that have taken her?

pigsDOfly · 09/01/2017 15:08

Mitzy I read years ago about the fact that the skin of kiwi fruit is supposed to be edible so I tried eating a bit; your description is absolutely spot on.

amusedbush · 09/01/2017 15:11

Neither. Pears have the texture of a cat's tongue Envy

Aki23 · 09/01/2017 15:11

peel for a child maybe (baby definitely) but eat it myself - fiber goodness!

mereswinesaliva · 09/01/2017 15:12

I eat it because I need the roughage.

AncoraAmarena · 09/01/2017 15:16

Eat it.

I eat the whole lot, core and pips too. Likewise with apples. My mate says I'm like a horse! Grin

MarmiteDoesYouGood · 09/01/2017 15:16

Eat it, because why on earth would I not??

ppeatfruit · 09/01/2017 15:17

Some pears are lovely (e.g. conference, organic. or carefully grown , pesticide and fungicide free) when they're just ripe and washed I eat them whole. Those fatter greeny ones are not so nice IMO they're too acidic so I wouldn't eat them with their skins or without Grin

But no no no to Kiwi skin, it's allergy forming and pomegranate or quince skin ?????? you're having a larf aren't you?? that would be like eating concrete.

TuftyBum · 09/01/2017 15:18

Eat it as long as you wash it first.

MitzyLeFrouf · 09/01/2017 15:18

'When I was a very young child I was an extremely fussy eater and my grandmother used to sit and peel and deseed my grapes'

I don't know who to laugh at more. Your indulged younger self or your devoted granny! Grin

SausageSoda · 09/01/2017 15:22

Eat it. It's never occurred to me before to peel a Pear before eating.

Though am weaning DD at the mo and she's trying pears tomorrow and hers will be peeled. But it's a puree so doesn't count!

AllTheLight · 09/01/2017 15:23

Eat the skin

MarmiteDoesYouGood · 09/01/2017 15:23

Pear is one of my top 3 fruits. Smile

VoteyMcVoteFace · 09/01/2017 15:24

Peel it. Pear skin is yuk. Ditto peaches, nectarines.

Apples OK though.

HalfaFishFingerAndTwoPeas · 09/01/2017 15:46

Skin on

And cutted upGrin

FurryLittleTwerp · 09/01/2017 15:49

Most pear skin is fine, but occasionally I end up chewing & chewing & chewing & chewing & just cannot swallow it!

MarmiteDoesYouGood · 09/01/2017 15:53

To me, peeling a pear is like taking the crust off a sandwich.

It's only acceptable for those aged 5 or under, and even then it's indulgent.

PurpleMcPants · 09/01/2017 19:25

You can get hairless kiwi varieties (to grow yourself), they are easier to eat while than the hairy ones!
My MIL peels grapes for my spoilt man child FIL

RhodaBorrocks · 09/01/2017 19:28

Pear skin is the best part! It balances the sweetness of the rest of the fruit.

derxa · 09/01/2017 19:33

When I was an au pair the grandmere had fruit every day and would cut the skin off with a knife and fork sitting formally at the table.
I hate pears.

whattheactualflump · 09/01/2017 19:35

I've never thought of peeling one!? So yes - eat the skin (isn't that where all the good stuff is or is that an old wives tale?)

Whisky2014 · 09/01/2017 19:37

Eat it skin on

whyohwhy000 · 09/01/2017 21:31

OohhItsNotHoxton I eat kiwis like apples.

PerspicaciaTick · 09/01/2017 21:35

It depends on the variety of pear. Some sorts are fine, but I personally find Conference pear skin unpleasantly gritty so I always peel those.
