I was thinking about going shopping and then pushing the supermarket trolley back to my house. It would be easyer than over loading the pram. But thenot now I have written it it seems it feels I am bu. I am aren't I?

Ha ha it's obviously not theft but it would be funny if you got done for TWOCing. :o

Shopping trollies are designed for smooth flat surfaces. Using them on the street with kerbs etc. would cause greater wear and tear. Its not a no-cost solution. And pavements near a supermarket would be a nightmare if lots of people took to doing this.

BarbaraofSeville · 11/01/2017 09:15

I used to do it when I lived in a flat across a small park from the supermarket and I really don't see a problem with it as long as the trolley is taken back straight away. Trolley wasn't hard to push either - it was fine.

It's a practical solution and for some will save car use if they live close to a supermarket but too far to walk carrying shopping.

And for those who say it looks rough and chavvy, shame on you.

KoalaDownUnder · 11/01/2017 09:19

Grin Good on you, I say.

Would prob do it myself if didn't have car

Thinkingblonde · 11/01/2017 12:51

I saw a woman pushing a laden trolley from Tesco on Xmas Eve, she was struggling as it really was laden.

miscarryingandsad · 11/01/2017 13:14

My mum used to do this in the 80s and I had the job of pushing the trolley back. It was only a block away but I hated it - they were difficult to push and incredibly noisy when it was empty. Don't do it!

Thinkingblonde · 11/01/2017 13:18

The trolley had a mind of its own as the woman struggled to keep control of it. It looked to be full of reduced meat and turkeys. A man came to her rescue and helped her to drag it home .

How skanky. Yabu

ghostspirit · 11/01/2017 13:26

I thought a shank was a nasty word for someone addicted to drugs. Not someone with a trolley Confused

Skank to me means - hobo kind of chavy that's dirty

ghostspirit · 11/01/2017 13:34

I just checked urban dictionary your right. Don't know what made me think it was linked with drug taking.

RagamuffinAndFidget · 11/01/2017 14:04

It can be ghost - where I'm from 'skanking' someone means giving them less than they asked for or mixing drugs with something else. Conning people out of drugs, basically.

ghostspirit · 11/01/2017 16:12

Ah ok. 0h well. If I push a waitrose trolley does that make me a better class skank compard to say tesco.

I did this once, many years ago (long before internet ordering or locking wheels) while a student. We lived a couple of miles from Aldi, and were doing a stock-up shop at the beginning of term, so the trolley was full of heavy items (mostly tins, with some pasta/rice and milk). It would be safe to say it didn't enjoy the experience - we did return it, and all four wheels were just about attached, but it was very very hard work to push! After that we borrowed a flat-bed trolley with pneumatic tyres, and it was much better (we used to take a bike lock to lock it outside Aldi while shopping). So be aware the trolley might not survive....

RachelRagged · 11/01/2017 17:36

Common ? Chavvy ? Skanky ?

What a bunch of judgemental twats . Clutch your pearls , might clutch too tight one day with some luck .

Some real snobs on here .

I would be classed "common" by some Lady Muck type on here probably but even I would not take a shopping trolley home . Glad you did not do that in the end Ghostspirit . Shooting offence to some on here !

SoupDragon · 11/01/2017 18:11

If I push a waitrose trolley...

Was this you? I found it in woods today!
