AIBU returning an order from a friend!!

Mundane title I know RIGHT?
I recently decided to return an item I bought from my local Avon rep (who is also my friend.) Now she told me AVON had a 28 day returns policy. Ive only had the item for 13 days, so I thought great, I have time to return it.
I contacted her today and was told that I should have given it back straight away as her next Courier pick up is the 13th of Jan and that would be too late. AIBU to call their head office to arrange a return that way but I don't want to get my friend in trouble. Are there any AVON reps out there who can advise?

Normally I wouldn't be bothered as it was only £12 but im now the sole breadwinner of the family and were counting every single penny. Help!!!

I'd be pissed off that she might be trying to keep a sale to myself but say to her that it says 28 days so there must be a way to get it back and that I'll check with head office.

She's trying to fleece you so I wouldn't be worried at all about getting her into trouble.

Just call and say your rep can't come back until the 13th and you need to return it.

If your finances are tight then you need to return it somehow. One of the reasons why these direct selling or MLM businesses aren't fair is the pressure they put on relationships, with people feeling like they need to support business ventures with purchases they wouldn't otherwise make.

If she's trying to get you to keep something you can't afford, forget normal social niceties- she's already dropped them with you. Return the item by any method you can before it's too late.

if youve only had for 13 days then another 10 til the 13th only makes it 23 so still within time, shes trying to fob you off for some reason so id go via headoffice if shes still unwilling

They must have a customer care line so it won't be reporting her to head office

Right im going to be firm, im going to say "I want to return the item as per your 28 day policy please" if she cant arrange it I will contact head office and never purchase anything from them again

Giving your friend the benefit of the doubt I don't think she understands the returns process. She just needs to request the refund within the returns period and then send it back ASAP. However Avon extends its return policy at Xmas so anything bought from around campaign 16 can be returned until around the end of January. Not 100% sure on the date.

Be firm, get your money back, say no in future and don't feel guilty- you need to look after your own finances.

Tell her that due to the Xmas period any items bought from campaign 16 onwards can be returned until the end of January! She is trying to pull a fast one it's 28 days for you to give the item to her not for her to send it back as a rep you get a bit longer, all she needs to do is process the return online she can do that without you actually giving her the item. Is this her first Xmas as a rep she might not know about the extended returns period over Xmas.

• Unused, unopened and still in the original packaging
• In a re-saleable condition
• Returned via the original delivery method option (i.e. either your local Representative or Avon Online).

Where do you live op? Any rep could return it for you it doesn't have to be your 'friend' I'm not sure what customer care would do as your friend is a self employed rep so your contract of sale is with her not avon, I'm slightly annoyed on your behalf! People like this give genuine reps a bad name.

It say on their website you should return via the representative, keep copies of your messages and if you have to contact head office you can show you did try to do just that.

That's not quite how it works with Avon jmh740. Their returns policy applies to all reps selling their products, they may be self employed but don;t get to make up their own rules about returns

I used to work for Avon (long time ago) and I used to be able to do returns at the post office. Sure, it was more hassle, but it used to be perfectly possible. I think she should return it for you and give your money back.

She's talking rubbish. You, as the customer, have 28 days to return it to your rep. We (I'm an Avon rep too) then have quite a while to put it on our account as 'returned', then the courier collects it when they're delivering our next order. It's more like two months before we actually have to return it.

I really don't get Avon. Why would anyone go to the bother of ordering some fairly pricey make up that they cant even test, and then have the bother of getting it off a rep a couple of weeks later, when you can just go into Boots and buy mascara or something on the spot?

Hasn't Avon in recent years decided to use the pyramid business model/become an MLM? Bad news as that business model makes sharks out of even the nicest of friends because it's so hard for them to make money. Has she tried to recruit you as a seller yet? Best to buy things in the high street.
