Bright red vomit, pale grey armchair

It would appear the new year celebrations have proved a bit too much for my wife and she's projectile vomited across the flat. I've got her to bed with a sickbucket and a glass of water (and made sure she's on her side) and I'm desperately trying to get the bright red(curry) sick off a pale grey armchair? Is there anything that will shift it? Antibacterial spray seems to be spreading the stain out. Apologies for my cluelessness, it has been the best part of 20 years since I had to deal with a house plastered in sick! Makes me feel quite young again!

Salt.
I feel salt will do the trick.

Bicarb of soda/baking powder or vanish in a bit of water and scrubbed

Don't use salt - that usually fixes stains and makes them permanent!!

Soda water can be great on red wine - although that's quite an old fashioned thing to have in these days.

I know someone who used to swear white wine was good for getting red wine out.

At least if you are diluting it then the stain isn't setting - just make sure you're not doing too much water damage.

And google how best to deal with curry stains and maybe ketchup stains if there was a lot of tomato in the curry too...

I'd still go with salt.

Of the list of ingredients above we only have vanish in the flat, so I've given the armchair a good soak in that. So thanks ever so!

The flat is like a chunder treasure hunt, I keep finding vomit in new and improbable places, so I'm dowsing everything in vanish. She had her favourite white shirt on, she'll be beside herself if I can't get the stain out of that! Wish me luck!

Fairy liquid? If by any chance you have the fairy laundry bar that's a versatile thing that gets rid of loads of stains.

God you're being very laid back about the whole thing! I'd be going spare, and probably not giving much attention to the fave white shirt! Admittedly, I suffer from emetophobia, but have no patience for drunken vomiters in general. Good luck with the sofa!

Well it's Hogmanay and she's quite a comic and affable drunk and generally prone to puking.

The vanish seems to be working a treat on the shirt, so that might be savagable! Phew!

Ah, I suppose so, there's none of us perfect! I just get vair worked up over vomit!

If it was a tomato-based curry Fairy liquid is excellent for removing tomato stains.

It's very red so it must be, I'll lather some of that on too! Can't hurt! I wish I'd known this when I had house parties as a teenager!

GilMartin, you sound fabulous, very caring.
My partner is great at looking after me when unwell but I can't handle vomit and end up joining in. Hope you both had a good night before vomit arrived.

Cheers! We did! rather than me being caring, she's such a funny drunk that it is hard to get cross. Plus I was violently sick at a wedding five years ago and it is probably paypack time! Also puke doesn't bother me despite being very squimish about most things.

The shirt came up a treat with the vanish. It was like a scene from the world's grottiest detergent add this morning.

The chair needs a bit more work but is a lot better. Thanks everyone who advised!

OP you sound so lovely. I hope your wife doesn't feel too bad when she wakes up and the clothes and furniture have survived!

May I suggest some dioralite (that's not how you spell it I am sure) for your wife when she wakes if you happen to have any in the house.

If all else fails with the armchair, maybe a jaunty throw will work?

So flora is a concentrated disinfectant. I would try to use bicarbonate to get rid of any lingering smells

Yes I think a jaunty throw might be needed. We do have some diorolite, but I suspect it may be some hours before she surfaces.

Sunlight is fantastic for tomato stains. It bleaches them out.

Obviously not good advice at this time of the year but when the sun does come out try damping down the stain and popping the chair outside for a few hours.

Bicarb of soda will get rid of smell. Zoflora is an all singing all dancing wonder liquid cleaner thing you can get from places like b and m. Possibly supermarket too. I manage without it though.

It wasn't bloody jaunty mind you, more like someone setting a curry and booze filled fire hydrant off. Astonishing in its own way. Somehow it got in her socks? How on earth does that happen?
