To think this is the most insensitive gift ever (lighthearted)

I've just had a baby 8 weeks ago, a family friend of DH kindly bought us Xmas gifts (we usually exchange wine choc's etc) except this year I opened the gift to a bottle of stretch mark cream lol........

Thinking "it's the thought that counts" makes it almost worst ha ha.

LOL I think it was just a shock as I don't really know them very well, I had to try not to laugh and say the usuals "thank you very much"

Thanks to practically bathing in bio oil during my pregnancy I'm not to bad Xmas Grin

Haha. My brother bought me a bottle of wine for my birthday when I was heavily pregnant. I think he was deliberately winding me up.

One of my oldest friends bought me a Crazy Cat Lady mug last Christmas, just after our beloved family cat had died. A situation he was aware of. I did a "seriously, dude?!" double take but let it pass.

This year he bought me a Crazy Cat Lady action figure (complete with cats) and I could no longer resist pointing out the extreme unfortunateness.

What finally broke me was his detailed explanation that I still seemed like a cat person. I countered that he was basically saying I was a crazy cat lady who was too shit to actually keep cats alive and (fortunately) we both ended up in hystericsXmas Smile

Got slimming world membership from my aunt as a gift days after after having a baby.

She had lost loads and made lots of friends, she really thought it was a lovely gift and meant no malice.
I'm just grateful I opened the card when she wasn't there

My lovely mum has suffered with alopecia for 30 years, literally zero hair - my great gran once bought her a turbi-towel thingy to dry your hair. Gave us all quite a giggle though!

Weirdly, it's a fine line (or a fine stretch mark...) sometimes between what's a really thoughtful gift and what's overstepping the mark. A friend got given a posh eye cream and Touche Éclat by her SIL after her baby was born, as she knew she'd be having loads of sleepless nights, and she was really pleased with it - but when she showed the present to me and a mutual friend, our mutual friend said she'd have been really offended to get a gift that implied she looked knackered.

I think maybe it depends how well you know the person giving the gift.

I told my whole family I had given up drinking for good as it reacted badly with medication. my BIL bought me .. a bottle of whisky.

dp says he will find a good hole for it and has offered up a posh cordial shopping expedition in exchange Smile

I wouldn't have been offended but it is a weird gift. Not everyone gets stretch marks. I had twins and was huge and somehow don't have any marks at all.

I guess everyone's view on thoughtful is different and some people clearly just don't think lol.

My brother bought me anti-wrinkle cream as one of my gifts for my fortieth birthday I did find it funny to be fair.

That was fifteen years ago...maybe I should have used it. 😂

Haha! That's funny but I bet the thought was nice.. My MIL (who I get on with really well) got us all anti wrinkle cream (I'm 31!) She said "Preventative! I just don't want any of you looking like me!" Grin

Someone I know was going through IVF a few years ago, had had several unsuccessful rounds and never did have a baby.

Just after another unsuccessful round, her bitch of a MIL gave her a book of baby names. Confused

Years ago I dropped loads of hints to DH about wanting an ipod for my birthday. He bought me an ipod docking station but no ipod!

Getting a cake slice when I have had to give up gluten and the only cakes I eat now come out of a sealed packet. Wrinkle cream would be worse though!

My first Xmas with DH his dad and stepmum bought me a bottle of fake tan. I am insanely pale but I didn't think it was a problem for others Confused I re-gifted it, I would nonsooner wear fake tan than I would wear a ManKini!
