To think this is the most insensitive gift ever (lighthearted)

I've just had a baby 8 weeks ago, a family friend of DH kindly bought us Xmas gifts (we usually exchange wine choc's etc) except this year I opened the gift to a bottle of stretch mark cream lol........

Thinking "it's the thought that counts" makes it almost worst ha ha.

I got a pair of bedside lamps, clearly designed to go on either side of a shared double bed, for Christmas after a divorce - because the person had 'bought them already when she heard' (it all kicked off the previous April).

When I was about 22 with skin like a peach, my then MIL gave me Oil of Ulay Lotion, saying she used it every day, she was about 70 with skin like a stuffed crocodile. Xmas Grin

My SisterIL once gave me a broken necklace for Christmas, saying sweetly, "We knew you would be able to mend it"! Xmas Grin

This isn't an insensitive gift but just completely wrong! My friend and I have a limit of £10 each Christmas but then we go away for an overnight stay somewhere, shopping spree, nice meals etc instead in January. Last Christmas, she announced that all the presents came to £10 as she had bought them in charity shops. I have nothing at all against charity shops and often mooch round them but one present was a very old set of scented drawer liners from M&S, so old that there was no smell left to them at all. They went straight in the bin.

My. Mum once came home from the shops very proud because she had found me a hula hoop which she had heard was excellent for whittling you (ne) a waist.

She was so pleased, and couldn't quite see why I wasn't as excited!

My dh was really annoyed with my db this Christmas. No-one knows my dh smokes and he bought him a vaping kit! In front of everyone..... Just being dopy as he smokes himself and has never hidden it from anyone. But dh was hopping mad as he didn't want the kids especially to know.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 30/12/2016 23:43

Your kids don't know their dad smokes busy?! He must be a stealth genius to hide it! What did he say about the vaping kit? Unless he actually vapes that's a very passive aggressive present!

busyboysmum · 31/12/2016 01:01

He sneaks off. One of them does know actually as you can smell it on him and we've talked about it but I dunno he thinks they don't. I don't think it was passive aggressive he was trying to be helpful as they had discussed it. It was all a bit odd. I didn't help by drunkenly sniggering apparently. Drew more attention to It.

SpookyPotato · 31/12/2016 09:19

The parents I know who smoke also hide it from their kids.. they say "I'm just going to put the bins out" several times a day Grin Think they're considering vapes now that the kids are older and more savvy!

Ha ha some crackers here!!

HNY when it comes to everyone!
