Posting here for traffic. I would like as many replies as possible if you don't mind. Judt to see if it is indeed open to interpretation.

Is the first weekend of January Saturday 31st of December/ Sunday 1st of January or is Saturday 7th / Sunday 8th ?

In my mind 7th/8th

maybeshesawomble · 27/12/2016 10:28

7th/8th

SheldonsSpot · 27/12/2016 10:29

7th/8th

LineyReborn · 27/12/2016 10:30

Sunday 1st.

Brokenbiscuit · 27/12/2016 10:30

7th/8th in my mind, but clearly, there is room for interpretation, so I'd check if you've made plans with someone.

EnoughAlreadyLady · 27/12/2016 10:31

7/8

PaperdollCartoon · 27/12/2016 10:31

7/8th

This coming weekend is just no-mans land

harderandharder2breathe · 27/12/2016 10:49

7/8th but I would clarify if making plans

Grilledaubergines · 27/12/2016 10:54

7/8.

Otherwise with Sunday being 1st Jan, you'd usually refer to it as 'New Years day' if it's with regard to plans/invitation.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 27/12/2016 10:58

7th/8th

KayTee87 · 27/12/2016 11:00

7/8th - you wouldn't refer to Sunday 1st as first weekend in January.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 27/12/2016 11:02

7/8th because it's the first full weekend.

PixieMiss · 27/12/2016 11:03

7th/8th

80sMum · 27/12/2016 11:05

I also think it's the 7th and 8th.

VladmirsPoutine · 27/12/2016 11:07

31st/1st

sometimesKit · 27/12/2016 11:07

Could be either, definitely need to clarify if there are plans afoot!

Whathappendexactly · 27/12/2016 11:13

Thanks. I honestly thought it to be the weekend of 31st / 1st as that what it looks like on a calendar. (I count the numbers in red ).

7th/8th.

Man10 · 27/12/2016 13:51

I agree with 7th/8th, though I can see there's room for disagreement.

The coming weekend isn't in December or January as far as I'm concerned. A weekend is two days, both have to be in the month in question for the weekend to be "in".

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 27/12/2016 13:52

Depends if it is the first 'full weekend' or not.

allegretto · 27/12/2016 13:55

I would say that weekend refers to two days so it has to be 7/8th.

Davros · 27/12/2016 14:09

31/1

InTheDessert · 27/12/2016 14:24

Being particularly unhelpful, Friday 6, Sat 7. Sunday is a working day here. It's amazing how your internal day calender counts. I just "knew" it was 2 days to the weekend, therefore it was Wednesday. Nope. 2 days to the weekend now, and it's Tuesday evening (just fed the kids).

Snap8TheCat · 27/12/2016 14:27

Huh?

LineyReborn · 27/12/2016 14:30

Yes, weekends are different in some countries / cultures, e.g. Israel it would run Friday eve to Saturday eve and Sunday is the first day of the week.
