When s the first weekend of January?

Posting here for traffic. I would like as many replies as possible if you don't mind. Judt to see if it is indeed open to interpretation.

Is the first weekend of January Saturday 31st of December/ Sunday 1st of January or is Saturday 7th / Sunday 8th ?

It's confusing this year but I'd say 7/8 because although the 1st is in the weekend, not all that weekend is in January.
