To be so worried about how I am going to get to work?

I have a motorbike, my only form of transport.

It broke down recently and while it is fixable, it's a difficult thing to fix that will take time and money so I'll be without it over the Christmas period.

Which fucking sucks because I am working Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, NYE and NYD.

There are no buses or trains at all on 2/4 of these days and the other 2 are severely restricted meaning I cannot get to work on time.

Aibu to be freakinv out about how I will get to work? And also to think that my boss can't really be annoyed at me about this (although he absolutely 100% will be and will probably result in me not being kept on after Christmas).

I have no friends or family who could give me a lift, except dp who will be working 1/2 drive in the opposite direction.

Ultimately transport is your responsibility. Can you rent a car/bike? Taxi?

Dp might just have to give you a lift on the days with no public transport. It sucks but cheaper than a taxi.

It's going to have to be a taxi. It will be expensive, but in your shoes I would speak to a local firm and see if you can agree a fixed rate and book them now.

Longer term, could you get a cheap moped to see you through whilst the bike is fixed?

I can't get a taxi as I only have about £70 in my account until the beginning of january and the taxi would cost about £40 - more than I would actually earn in my shift.

I can ask dp for some of the days but others my shift starts at 10 when he starts work at 8 so he couldn't give me a lift.

You'll have to set off early with dp to drop you first then go to work - wait for him to collect later.

Do colleagues live anywhere near who could give you a lift or stay over somewhere. Ask on local fb page if anyone else is travelling that way.

There is one colleague who leaves close, I have asked but still waiting for a reply! I'm only a Christmas temp so don't really know anyone well enough to ask to stay over.

No, don't know anyone with one! TBH I don't think I'm fit enough for the ride, it's a long way along major A roads and lots of hills.

Yep you will just have to go to work very early on the days you are meant to start at 10 - there are people who do that where I work too, where they only have one car between them. It sucks but it's the only solution sometimes.

I don't really have an issue with going in early as such it's just that I will be waiting around outside for 2hrs waiting for someone to open the shop. I'll have to see if there's a coffee shop or something open :/

Your shifts must be pretty short if you earn less than £40! Could you ask for longer shifts so it's more
Worth your while being in work? Or get in at 8 with your dh. Or is there uber in your area, because you should be able to get a way cheaper deal than £40.

Ultimately it's your responsibility to get to work, not your boss's. Many people are totally reliant on public transport (medical issues which prevent getting a licence) It's a pain that services are reduced over the festive period but it's one of those things you have to suck up.... even if you only break even financially, you'd be worse off without a job!

Feel for you, but really you just need to sort it out.

Speak to your manager - can you change any of your shifts to fit better with your partner? Perhaps a swap would benefit a colleague? E.g. if it suited you to swap from an early to a late on NYE? Can you drop any of the shifts?

If not, you'll need to suck up a couple of hours of hanging around if your OP has to drop you early?

Assuming it's a retail or catering type job, is there any chance of getting something closer to home in the medium to long term?

Your partner doesn't have much choice. It's either drive you there or sub you for a taxi.
