It annoys me that he is blamed for getting pissed off that Buzz eats all of his pizza and then says he will sick it up.

Does anyone notice that when his dad cleans up the spilt Coke he accidentally throws one of the passports and ticket into the bin? It explains why the headcount always tallies with the amount of tickets!

Yeah it's bad, but without those neglectful parents we wouldn't have the brilliant film home alone

Dh and i have this argument every year. He says Home Alome is a christmas film about family,i say it's not a christmas film it's a film about really shit incompetant parents with John Candy thrown in for comedy value.

I always feel sorry for him at the beginning when he doesn't get any pizza. He is only little and hasn't had any dinner but gets shouted at. His Uncle is a fucking arsehole and wouldn't be welcome in my house if he spoke to my son like that. Love the film though!

I hate the way his uncle speaks to him and the fact that his supposed loving parents stand idly by whilst he's verbally abused by him and his older brother too.

Apparently, in an earlier version of the script his uncle was supposed to be the one who planned the burglary and wanted to kill Kevin!

I just watched it for the first time since being a parent and I felt so sorry for him. If anyone called my DS a jerk I'd be really angry!

He's an annoying child. I'm not surprised they subconsciously chose to forget him.

Oh, I don't know...I forgot my baby at school once. Actually drove off and didn't realise until I had arrived at my destination and tried to get her out of the car.

In HA the parents relied on people to do headcounts. I'm forever doing that to check that I've got my group, whether it's family or school trip etc. The difference being that I do the headcount myself.

Actually, it's the crooks I feel sorry for!

YANBU I showed it to my kids last Christmas and they found the way his family mistreated and then forgot him really upsetting. Ds2 is still really indignant about it a year later.

The inaccuracies annoy me but as pp said it'd be a pretty boring film if it were realistic .

For example there's not a chance in hell he'd have got the house repaired/cleaned to those standards following the burglary, I mean his mum arrives home first thing the following morning!

I know it's not real but I do quite enjoy picking holes in film plots and getting irritated about inaccuracies and so on!

I've never watched it before. I'm watching lost in New York now. But from the comments here and the speech on screen it's obv happened before!! I mean how could you do that to your own kids? It's disgraceful

Well yeah, hence the whole Home Alone element. It's kind of the point of the franchise.

I went to a quote-along showing of Home Alone with DH in a Leicester Square cinema.

DH and I were pretty much the only ones quoting along.

Got some strange looks from other people, realised afterwards most were tourists.

Put me off sing-along The Sound of Music!

I was watching it on Sunday with DP and for the first time started to wonder few things (last seen it as a child)

• How could you forget your son? Also I imagine you would notice at the airport or even on the plane!

• How do they afford such a big big house and a big holiday for so many people. Are Kevins parents super rich? The uncle doesnt seem to be what with stealing stuff from the plane...

• Why would they go on holiday with such a horrible man like the uncle? He treats Kevin so badly and doesnt seem bothered that he is home alone.

• Why are they all blaming Kevin when his brother ate the pizza and all the cousins were super mean to him.

• Why do they have all those cardboard cut outs and mannequins?

The list could go on! Still like the films.

I find it very hard these days to watch without thinking what shit parents they are all round really.

If my DB or BIL called my 8yo a "little jerk" because he accidentally spilled some Coke, well there'd be hell to pay (and a very ranty AIBU on MN ). Instead they join in the glaring and pop him in the fucking attic knowing fine well he is scared. And when she tells him to ask Santa for a new family. Twat

Also at the beginning of the film he says he's shooed out the living room because he's too young to watch what the other kids are watching. And his mum agrees - isn't it Basic Parenting 101 that at family gatherings what's on the TV is suitable for all ages?

I don't feel sorry for him. He's pretty clued up for an 8 year old. His little cousin the bedwetter in the movie is his brother in rl. And Buzz's gf in the picture in the trunk is actually a man dressed up.

We used to set up traps like in the film at home but they never worked .
