Someone's nicked my mug!

Just went to make a drink at work and couldn't find my mug in the cupboard so have had to use a spare so had a quick wander to see whose nicked it and there it is sat on some blokes desk.

Now if you see a mug in the office with a picture of someone's kids on it wouldn't it dawn on you that it actually belongs to someone and isn't a spare?

First world problems and all that but come on!!

Someone did this to me at work! It was a picture of me and my horse. He was mighty confused when I said 'your drinking my face', but he reckoned he didn't even notice and just picked up a mug Xmas Confused

Walk up to him, say 'thanks for making my tea/coffee, but my desk is over there' and walk off again Xmas Grin

I did this to someone. I was new and hadn't realised that people had brought in their own mugs (there were some plain ones). The place I'd worked in before hadn't had this etiquette - we'd always used paper cups.

Then the person whose mug it was came up to tell me that I was using her mug but that I could keep it for the day.

I didn't use that mug again but I did think it was quite weird to care what sort of mug you use in the office. It made me feel rather unwelcome.

We own our mugs, so yes I would expect others not to use it. But I keep mine on the desk when washed and spares are in the cupboard.

Oooooh no.... if you have to bring in your own mugs and they aren;t provided by the company then people 100% care about which one they have! Of course they want their own - it is the right size, weight, thickness and design :-)

My friend had to take milk in too and people kept using it.. so she labelled it "breast milk" (people knew she was still feeding) and voila - nobody touched it!

But I'd be pissed off if somebody used my mug. I always use the same mug at home. Like someone said above - perfect size etc!

I have a seasoned tea mug - it's a very easy way to ensure no one nicks yours Grin

(Before anyone says, I don't take milk or sugar so no nasty stuff to build up a bacteria colony)

If you take your own mug in then it's unreasonable for someone else to nick it. I was always first to the dishwasher in the morning in my last place just so I could make sure I got mine back safe after some bugger walked off with it.

I have this issue a couple of times a week. Is your name muddling? No, so why are you using a mug with that name on then.
One cheeky fecker said I should keep it in my locker.
I guess I don't care enough to not use the dishwasher but still bloody annoying

This happenned to me but my mug was never found :(

It was one of those cute 'Keep Calm and Drink Tea' ones and I loved drinking in it. Normally I would keep it at my desk after cleaning but that one time it was in the kitchen and in the morning I couldn't find it. Started looking on people's desk but nothing.
Even had other co workers join me on the hunt but it was no where to be found!
Still haunts me Xmas Angry

My mug disappeared and then came back a year later - in the kitchen on another floor! I only found it cos someone messaged me as they recognised it, was very bizarre...

I'm on maternity leave atm and have brought my work mug home so it doesn't get reappropriated while I'm away...

It depends on if there are spares and how many. In my place of work no mug meant no drink in your 15 minute break.

I bought what I thought were distinctive mugs - they got nicked (and I mean they just disappeared never to be seen again - one disappeared the FIRST day I had it).

I then got a mug with my name on one side - saw a bloke drinking out of it. "Is that your mug?" "No, I think it's a spare one" "Hmm - look at the other side" "Oops" - but carried on drinking and I still had no mug - so no drink for me that break.

Then I got two with my name on bigger - worked for a while, then I realised people without mugs were purposely using mine as they "knew I wouldn't mind" - no drink again. I kept them in my locker (well - they don't lock, it's just a cupboard really with your name on) - they were borrowed from there.

Then I got ticked off by my line manager for leaving my mug in a meeting room - I hadn't, it had been borrowed. Don't think she believed me.

I had to hide my mug in my locker under some stuff after that - and I brought a load of pound shop mugs in (at my own expense) for all the lazy, selfish entitled arses.

Yes, do take your work mug home! Once I had to take a month off work after an operation and when I got back, my mug was on someone's desk. Now, I thought 'Oh, he'll have just thought it was a spare. I'll take it back when he's put it back in the kitchen' but in actual fact he took it on permanently and it never left his desk for the next four years.

Obviously I could have said something but I didn't, because I have the classic British trait of massive awkwardness and not wanting to make a scene. Blush

Walk up to him point at the mug and say, awww are they your kids? When he says "no" say "that's cos their mine you thieving little fucker" and take the mug back.

I took mine home on maternity leave. Though mug-theft is fairly common in our office, my lovely massive mug has never gotten nicked in the decade I've worked here.

Guess having a tinkerbell mug in a male dominated office works Grin
