Reborn dolls.. even the most realistic looking look horrible but recently I've seen some terrible examples on fb selling pages. These two are right up there on the wtf scale!

Hideous, just hideous - can't imagine who buys this tat!!

MollyHuaCha · 30/11/2016 17:32

Good grief. Why do these exist? They are so awful I almost want to get them...

watchingitallagain · 30/11/2016 17:33

They look like the kid on the ceiling in Trainspotting.

Eeshk they're terrifying!

MissCherryCakeyBun · 30/11/2016 17:40

Bloody hell they would give Hansel and Gretel a run for their money 😳😳😳

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 30/11/2016 17:54

Apparently people whose babies have died, also people who have psychological issues.

They are hideous but most of the collectors are fairly vulnerable people I think so I personally wouldn't mock them for doing it - it's essentially harmless!

Colby43443 · 30/11/2016 17:54

Those look like fakes. The genuine ones look almost like real newborns. Reborn dolls are often used by mums who've miscarried/had still births as a coping measure.

mygorgeousmilo · 30/11/2016 18:00

They could be definitely be described as crap, they are crap and weird. As pp have suggested I think it tends to be people who have suffered some kind of trauma, miscarriage, stillbirth. People generally vulnerable. They are very weird, in Thailand they had a weird phase of people actually actively looking after plastic dolls from China, that had been marketed as 'spirit dolls' and again, usually vulnerable people were the ones buying into it. I read about people buying them plane tickets, and meals in fancy restaurants etc.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 30/11/2016 18:03

I suffered a miscarriage and cannot relate to those dolls AT ALL.

Cheerybigbottom · 30/11/2016 18:09

There's a reborn doll shop in the town I live in and the dolls are incredibly realistic. Nothing like those in the pictureConfused

MaidOfStars · 30/11/2016 18:11

I believe they are also used to soothe older people with dementia etc.

JustWantToBeDorisAgain · 30/11/2016 18:26

Those are hideous, the quality versions are very effective for some older people ( particularly mothers) with dementia. The babies are weighted to feel like a real infant and can help the older person focus of something. I've seen them in use and they are very good.

The two in the picture ....

SheSparkles · 30/11/2016 18:35

These are absolutely fugly!

NannyR · 30/11/2016 18:35

They are not my cup of tea at all but I can see why some people like to collect the really good ones and how they could be therapeutic - those two, however are hideously badly made. They would give me nightmares!

DramaInPyjamas · 30/11/2016 18:58

They remind me of the Gloobee dolls I had growing up

amysmummy12345 · 30/11/2016 19:00

Cabbage patch kids on crack right there 😌

JellyBelli · 30/11/2016 19:04

Aiieee!

CockacidalManiac · 30/11/2016 19:05

They look like a thunderbird puppet that's been in a house fire

JellyBelli · 30/11/2016 19:34

CockacidalManiac Dont you ruin Thunderbirds!

OhhBetty · 30/11/2016 19:39

These ones are awful but the real ones are incredibly realistic. I work in care and they're great for dementia patients as a pp said. I also used to support a younger lady and they really helped her when she was coming to terms with the fact she could never have children. She still has them and they help her tremendously.

They're perfectly harmless. Except the ones you've posted are harming my eyes!

Littlelondoner · 30/11/2016 20:54

Any 80s kids remember the riddlers? It is cross between them and the leprechauns off live and kicking

FlyingElbows · 30/11/2016 20:57

The Riddlers! I couldn't remember what they were called but you're bang on, Littlelondoner.
