To ask if this is obvious enough? (Sending an email address through EBay messages...decoding needed!)

Ebay doesn't let you send email addresses through their messaging system - or phone numbers - to stop people dumping ebay and doing a transaction straight through paypal.

Anyway, I'm buying something but want to dump Ebay because the seller will give me a discount (please no talks on the ethics of this! Because I really don't care Grin ) I also can't take a picture of my email address which would have worked because my camera is knackered until next week.

Anyway, I need to send them my email address so that they can email me an invoice through Paypal.

I've tried a few variations of spaces, using the word 'dot' or 'at' etc - all of which have been blocked by EBay. Is this obvious enough for you to get what my email is:

The first word is Joan. Then followed by what American's call a period. Followed by the colour of grass. Followed by the year in which the Battle of Hastings took place. Followed by the place at which all electronic mail is very, very warm. Followed by a period. Followed by the common three letter ending.

AIBU to ask what you would get from that? Or can you come up with a better version? Atm either me or my seller is being thick because they cannot get it at all. I'm not concerned about my email address being outed on mn either...it's one of a bunch of random ones I have to cut down on junk mail.

Joan.Green1066@hotmail.
But i do think you've overcomplicated it somewhat

giantpurplepeopleeater · 30/11/2016 14:34

*.com of course

GreenTureen · 30/11/2016 14:34

Yes, both right...so it's not that cryptic then. My seller is obviously not the brightest spark Grin

How can I make it easier? But still cryptic enough that EBay won't block it?

I found the period thing tricky. Maybe say punctuation?

GreenTureen · 30/11/2016 14:36

But what sort of punctuation? Because full stop / dot / spot and similar are all banned.

I also can't take a picture of my email address which would have worked

Screen shot the email and send that pic?

GreenTureen · 30/11/2016 14:38

I say camera but it's my photos that are the issue...seems to take a pic or screenshot but doesn't save. Lots of space and all that, some random error.

Would sending it backwards work? So
[email protected]

Com.hotmail (at sign) 1066 green.joan
For the . You could say how you end a sentence?

acurtis1234 · 30/11/2016 14:42

Why don't you just ask for the sellers paypal name, search for them in paypal, then email the address to confirm it's them before paying?

Bumbledumb · 30/11/2016 14:42

Anyway, I'm buying something but want to dump Ebay because the seller will give me a discount

or rip you off.

GinAndOnIt · 30/11/2016 14:44

Yeah the period thing threw me until I saw the second one. Also the warm mail thing because I hadn't twigged that had moved onto the 'at' bit, but I eventually got there.

GinAndOnIt · 30/11/2016 14:46

Will it allow you to say 'stop' for a dot? But again, some might not get that. Could you put the main words in capitals, ie my name is JOAN and grass is GREEN

GreenTureen · 30/11/2016 14:46

Com.hotmail (at sign) 1066 green.joan

No, won't work...com/hotmail/at (in that context)...all banned, it won't send.

Acurtis...don't you need an email address anyway though to do that?

wasonthelist · 30/11/2016 14:47

Get buyers mobile number - probably already available from contact details, send e-mail address in a text.

GreenTureen · 30/11/2016 14:48

Ah...'how you end a sentence' might be better than oeriod. It's probably period throwing them I'd imagine.

OP posts:
GinAndOnIt · 30/11/2016 14:48

Would it let you write:

Joan (stop) green 1066, followed by

hot mail (stop) three lettered ending

GreenTureen · 30/11/2016 14:48

Nope, his mobile number isn't on details - and ebay also bans you from sending a phone number. It's a right PITA (as I suppose is the point!)

OP posts:
wasonthelist · 30/11/2016 14:50

Sorry buyers should read sellers but same principle.

GreenTureen · 30/11/2016 14:51

Joan (stop) green 1066, followed by

hot mail (stop) three lettered ending

I've not tried (stop) - so i'm going to try that now. Will need to do the 'at the place where mail is very warm' thing though because hot and mail in the same message won't go.

OP posts:
Debinaboat · 30/11/2016 14:51

You could try writing out your mobile number in full like zero seven six six etc

wasonthelist · 30/11/2016 14:51

E bay does not ban phone numbers in messages I have done it loads including recently.

PlainJJane · 30/11/2016 15:04

Could you not send multiple messages ?
One saying Joangreen1066, then another with @ then another saying hotmail then another .com?

LilQueenie · 30/11/2016 15:08

Why is the seller giving a discount for not going through ebay? they get less via paypal anyway so what difference would a discount make? You are leaving yourself wide open to losing money op.

PizzaPower · 30/11/2016 15:16

To get round this, I've written the info on a piece of paper and taken a photo which I've then sent. That seems to work.
