To ask if this is obvious enough? (Sending an email address through EBay messages...decoding needed!)

Ebay doesn't let you send email addresses through their messaging system - or phone numbers - to stop people dumping ebay and doing a transaction straight through paypal.

Anyway, I'm buying something but want to dump Ebay because the seller will give me a discount (please no talks on the ethics of this! Because I really don't care Grin ) I also can't take a picture of my email address which would have worked because my camera is knackered until next week.

Anyway, I need to send them my email address so that they can email me an invoice through Paypal.

I've tried a few variations of spaces, using the word 'dot' or 'at' etc - all of which have been blocked by EBay. Is this obvious enough for you to get what my email is:

The first word is Joan. Then followed by what American's call a period. Followed by the colour of grass. Followed by the year in which the Battle of Hastings took place. Followed by the place at which all electronic mail is very, very warm. Followed by a period. Followed by the common three letter ending.

AIBU to ask what you would get from that? Or can you come up with a better version? Atm either me or my seller is being thick because they cannot get it at all. I'm not concerned about my email address being outed on mn either...it's one of a bunch of random ones I have to cut down on junk mail.

This reeks of scam. But it's your money

Shiningexample · 30/11/2016 16:29

dont use the friends & family option, the fee's are the same but the sender pays the fee's instead of the reciever

if it's an oversea's seller paypal also make a profit on the currency transaction, thats on top of the percentage that they skim off of the payment sent

LilQueenie · 30/11/2016 16:34

Shining I use friends and family option a lot (not on ebay) and I dont get a fee.

19lottie82 · 30/11/2016 16:34

not necessarily a scam............ as i explained you're 100% covered as long as you use the "goods or services" option when paying by paypal.

LolaTheDarkDestroyer · 30/11/2016 16:41

Hope it's a collection item or you're fucked without paypal. Also you CAN send mobile numbers. Talk about over complicating shit.

GreenTureen · 30/11/2016 20:07

Mobile numbers can't be sent (I definitely can't anyway, i've tried) since they changed things a couple of years ago Hmm

Anyway, the talk of scams and no protection is wrong - it's still going through Paypal, using an invoice, and full paypal protection applies.

The stuff i'm buying is worth £200 - I negotiated £20 off anyway because of multiple items but the seller will give a further £20 off for going outside of Ebay which is just his selling fees - it's of no benefit to them to do it so nice that they will IMO.

Anyway, for £40.00 discount off £200 I persevered and it worked earlier...using Gin's suggestion from this afternoon. Thank you for the suggestions for those not in a moral tizz about me cheating Ebay Wink

I sent a mobile number yesterday via EBay. No problems at all & the seller texted me straight away. Picked item up today :)

However, the auction had ended & it was unsold (I knew it would be) so I sent him my message on one of his other items, which I had watched - just for that reason.

baconandeggies · 30/11/2016 20:59

Well done op! I'm selling a holiday week on eBay and would have to pay 10% (£80) final value fees - which I'm happy to do but that's why the eBay price is set higher than the price featured elsewhere. So I offer buyers the choice.
