A friend has just posted a photo of a random child sitting near him and his wife on a plane with the comment "If this brat makes any noise, I'll be complaining to cabin crew." Said friend has one adult daughter and is otherwise a nice guy. Loads of people have commented saying how people shouldn't bring children on planes etc. I am sitting on my hands but I really want to call him a dickhead. Should I?

I would tell him that's not a nice thing to say about his wife

It's creepy to take photos of kids like that. Who does that?!

No, don't call him that, he sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Children are very disruptive on planes at times, so being on guard against such antisocial behaviour is fair enough.

I'd agree that it is bang out of order to post a random picture of someone elses child on the internet, but I wouldn't be offended by the comment. There is nothing worse than a screaming child on a plane as you just cant get away from them and even though you know that the parent probably isnt enjoying the screaming either it doesnt make it any better

I'd comment. It's a shitty thing to do and shaming a child for being a child (not to mention that it's a huge violation of the child's privacy and could potentially put the child at risk if they have no contact order for an abusive parent).

If he'd just posted a status saying "ARGH we've just sat down for our flight and we're right by a tiny child - hope it isn't going to be noisy" then I'd eye roll and scroll past.

The photo makes it attention seeking.

That's terrible. One thing thinking it, but that's just swinging his dick round and playing to the crowd. So no he's not a nice guy.

For me it's the adults I have wanted to complain about. With or without children, it's an adult I find very annoying. If I hear a child having a hard time being on a long flight I feel for them and the parent. Sit on your hands OP!

He shouldn't be posting pictures of a child he doesn't even know, especially to shame the child just for a being a child. Poor kid and his/her family being stuck near a prick like him.

For his arrogance I actually hope the child makes plenty of noise.

I hope for the sake of the cabin crew and the parents that the kid has a peaceful flight.

Surely the best way to keep the kid quiet is to offer to swap with one of his parent?

Hate this 'trend' of taking a picture of someone out in public and posting it on Facebook to say something snarky. Only one person I know did this (being nasty about a woman's outfit), and I unfriended them immediately.

Posting a picture of a child is weird, and complaining about noise before it has even happened paints this man as an absolute dick in my eyes.

I'd ask if he knows whether the child is under a protection order.

Sure kids can be annoying on planes, but so can adults. At least kids don't get drunk and spout inappropriate stuff all night. I once had a bad experience flying long haul listening to the guy behind me talking about his experiences of anal sex to a lady I think was his colleague. And when they did finally shut up DD (age 2) woke 15 mins later. I'm afraid I didn't do much to keep her quiet, although she happily sat in her seat and watched movies for the last few hours of the flight.

Assuming the photo makes the kid identifiable, I'd definitely report it to facebook.

God help him if I caught him photographing my kids on a plane.

Deeply unpleasant to call a child a brat, especially when they haven't done a thing wrong.

Also not really on to take pictures of other people's children and share them on social media.

And I think he's mistaking cabin crew for miracle workers who can magically quiet a noisy child.
