AIBU to ask about anti hunt charities?

I would like to make a donation to an anti hunting/bloodsports charity, but the only dilemma I have is that I dont really advocate for Sabbing hunts, as I feel the potential for any sabotage causing harm to the dogs and horses (other animals involved) etc is equally alarming from an animal welfare stand point.

Does anyone know of or recommend a charity that both lobby and put pressure on or expose hunting practices without being at the extreme end of activism?

This is not designed to be a contentious post, but I would be very appreciative if anyone could point me in the right direction please

Are the league againest cruel sports or something similar still going? FYI in my hunt sabbing days a long, long time ago it was never our intention to hurt horses or dogs, or indeed people, just to prevent the dogs getting the foxes scent.

Hunting with dogs has been banned for years now. Most hunts follow the clean boot.

Hunting with dogs happens a lot down here in Devon. Now I live with a shooting bumpkin, and we own a gundog who's used for retrieving pheasants. However, maybe hypocritically, I hate hunting. I am not ok with a fox being chased into a hole, and then sending their terriers in to rip the thing up.
Nobody takes a pack of dogs to hunt a rag, do you honestly think people would pay to keep a pack of dogs they couldn't hunt properly?!

Troll, I tried, but wanted to be sure I wasnt donating to fund extreme activism. Do feel free to move along if you have nothing to offer.

As for hunting with dogs being banned, someone could do with pointing that out to the hunts in my part of the country.

I dont think you are a hypocrite at all Mama, its a conflicting problem that comes with living in the country I think.

The hunt near us gets round the law by having a man with a hawk, as you are allowed to use dogs to flush out game. Shame all those foxes get in the way.
A friend from Herefordshire (a hunt member) told me that foxes were still brought out from towns to be hunted, I hope he was mistaken.

I hate hunting too and it has nothing to do with me 'not understanding that animals need to be culled'.

It's about me not understanding the mindset of any decent person, who gets a thrill and enjoyment out of it.

That's fucked up imo.

Imagine the look on a hunters face if their local vet walked into the waiting room, rubbed their thighs/clapped their hands and said, "Yaaaay! So whose animals need putting to sleep today? I'm so excited, I can't wait!"

Same fucked up mentality imo, except marginally less blood thirsty considering it's done quickly and quietly by injection...without inviting all their mates to join in the 'excitement'.

Thats what I struggle with worra I just dont get it? How can anyone get pleasure out of it? and whilst I have considered all of the various arguments on both sides, I still just cant accept it. I feel that the only way I can actively help make a change is to donate to the right place.

If a group of working class, tracksuit clad youngsters chased a frightened animal around a council estate for sport, I'm quite sure the words 'psycho' and 'chav' would be bandied about.

The people truly sicken me and I wouldn't want them near me or my family.

I hunt. We hunt within the law and genuinely do pull the dogs off if they divert from the artificial scent onto a real fox trail. In the 10 years since the ban we haven't killed a single fox ( I've shot plenty with a rifle for sniffing round my lambs but that's a different matter.)

Unfortunately there simply aren't any anti hunt charities that are not in some way backing extremism.

Earlier this year a friends 15 year old was punched in the face by a saboteur who turned out to be a nursery worker. A friend of ours from another hunt had sabs using a hunting horn call his dogs over a main road. 6were killed outright with another 3 needing to be put down later that day. (Yeah animal lovers these Saba... my fucking arse!) 2 cars were written off and one of the cars contained a family with 3 small children in the back.

I am not particularly supportive of the law, I don't believe it promotes animal welfare at all it is a disgusting piece of class war driven by the hard left. Even Blair himself has admitted he didn't understand the issue at stake and in retrospect it was a mistake.

However, for now, it is the law and must be followed.

The masked thugs who come out into the countryside on a weekend to cause trouble, to trespass, harass, intimidate and assault law abiding people don't seem to share that respect for the law though. Nothing but common thugs the lot of them.

As for the guy above, get your own house in order. Filthy Terrier men, and knuckle dragging, forelock-tugging hunt followers are pretty verminous.

Our two local hunts regularly kill foxes and hares, the sabs near us have also filmed them kicking the hounds and dragging them by their necks.
As a born and bred country girl, I find it disgusting and abhorrent.

They don't look after the hounds either and the sabs care just as much about that.
Sabs have been attacked with knives, trampled and run over. I admire them, especially when you have hunts like the belvoir who have the wildlife crime police officer riding with them.

A more direct conflict of interest would be hard to find.
Follow some groups on FB and see what they do, the photos and videos are quite revealing.

I've never hunted or followed a hunt but I was raised in a country environment and the lazy contempt that the anti hunt lobby has for people they can't even be bothered to listen to properly never ceases to surprise me.

Op you'll struggle to find an organisation that doesn't in some way have links to activists I'm afraid.

Your name calling speaks volumes though, I find the anti hunt activist types to be pretty venomous.
They are happy to harm horses, hounds, people. Criminal damage, trespass, intimidation and outright violence (even against children) are common. Of course they all wear masks to try and look all scary and stop themselves being identified.

One local sab group turned up last year at a CHILDRENS horse show. It had some spurious link with a local hint but there was no hunting going on.There was a video doing the rounds on Facebook at the time of the balaclava wearing nutcases screaming the most obscene language at kids who can't have been more than 10 years old in some cases

Or you could support the Fox project or NFWS who help injured foxes. I started supporting them as a quiet protest about how these animals are treated. They are incredibly dog like and devoted parents to the Cubs, very playful creatures.

The average lifespan is approx 18months, hence one of our local hunts has taken to stealing Cubs to train the hounds and release when older.

I do think that there is a direct corellatioj between lack of intelligence and fox hunting. They will still come out with the old chestnuts about foxes killing for 'fun' (they don't, they would come back and gradually bury the kill for later if allowed) or pest control.

Foxes can't nip down to Waitrose so they kill to eat or hoard.
More of my farmer friends are banning the hunt using their land thank goodness.

For what it's worth I don't actually like terrier work either, definitely the nastier end of things and I'd happily leave that law in place.

This is one of my local hunts involved. The online abuse that their supported wrote to the paper that reported it was disgraceful.

I don't understand how a hunt could be fun/interesting. Surely it's the dogs doing the hunting. What's the point of following a dog on horseback? Am I missing something?

This is a hare. I can't follow the anti hunt group as I find it makes me angry too much than is good for me. I so admire those that go out and defend the animals, gutsy people.
Locals also get their cats ripped apart fairly often too.

We are a horsey family and our yard has people who hunt, it's not true that it's all drag hunting.
