Bit gross/embarrassing AIBU: stomach bug and newborn

Not a poo troll

I have a 12 week baby and seem to have come down with a bug in the last few hours
I can't get off the loo
DH is away with work
BF baby still cluster feeds all evening and is screaming on and off for a feed
What do I do?? AIBU to feed her while I, ahem, sit?
It can't be hygienic for her at all though can it??
Not sure I have a choice
Feel like death

Oh bless you, I have inflammatory bowel disease and had a massive flare when DD1 was born- fed her in the bathroom multiple times a day for months, was a single parent and had no choice. She was absolutely fine.

I hope you feel much better soon. Make sure you drink plenty as both BF and diarrhoea will dehydrate you Flowers

I had similar.

And yes, i sat on the loo and fed. Dc was fine, just mind your hygeine, wash ands properly etc.

Poor you, that sounds very difficult for you. Do you have friends that can at least come and cuddle the baby in between feeds so you can rest a bit? Sending CakeBrew hope you feel better soon.

Just bear in mind that most stomach 'bugs' are viruses, not bacteria. So anti bac won't have much effect, wash your hands as much as you can.

i has flu when ds1 was 6 weeks old. Thankfully he happily had a bottle. Don't you have a partner who could take her? Honestly I'd say a few bottles of formula would be preferable. And surely you are at risk of dehydration?

Sorry just saw she away.
When ds2 was a baby dh and I both got a stomach bug and MIL had to come and stay overnight and look after him. Do you have anyone that can help?

Thanks - have been sick and feel a lot better. Just taken baby to bed and hoping the night isn't too hellish. My mum is on standby
I am freezing and can't warm up Sad

Oh OP I've been there, it is awful. My DH works away a lot so when this happens I just disinfect everything, wash hands a lot and just try my best. Happened once when DD was small and I had to feed her while I was on the loo. Grim but we got through it!
Keep yourself wrapped up and try to rest (and drink LOADS of water!)

Poor you. If your mum is willing I'd honestly get her to come and take care of the baby for the night. Better for both of you.

Yes I think if your mum's offered take her up on it - you'll recover quicker if you rest.

Poor you op. Stomach bugs are awful :( if your mum has offered then I would definitely take her up on it. You don't need the added stress.

I used a saucepan to vomit in during the memorable norovirus week. Means you can carry on feeding right through. Good luck, drink loads, plenty of Dioralyte too.

Oh poor you. I had that with small bf baby and it was horrific. Keep repeating the mantra 'this too shall pass'...and take your mum up on the offer! Flowers

Hope you get well soon OP! And don't worry about being on the loo with baby! Remember we (mostly) all keep our toothbrushes in the same room as the toilet!

If you can bear it I really wouldn't replace breastfeeding with a bottle of formula - apart from protecting your supply, your milk will have lots of fantastic antibodies in it which should help protect your baby (and if they do end up with it, it's the best possible rehydration fluid). You just need to make sure you keep yourself hydrated. Could your mum come and take her while you sleep (and use the bathroom) so that you can rest properly where you can?

If you're cold, make sure you put socks on. If my feet are cold there's no hope of warming the rest of me up. Poor you :(

Get your mum over to help out. She can change nappies, hold baby, fetch you drinks etc. But don't replace breastfeeding with formula - your milk will help protect your newborn from the bug as antibodies will have been created once you became ill.

Flowers I just got through the same thing (although DS is slightly older so didn't have BF issue thankfully). I'm a single mum so I totally sympathise. Just get through however you can. The good news is it is probably only going to last a few days and the first 24 is the worst, once you are through that then you will start to feel better (though from personal experience just give it a week before you trust any farts...just trust me on that one)

Totally empathise with you, I had an awful bout of mastitis last week when dh was away.
The Antibiotics give me nasty side effects to the tune of d&v.
So having 6 children on my own 2 of which a 2 year old and a 10 month old who still bf like a newborn I can honestly say it was hell!
Like others have said do what you need to do to get through.
Hope your feeling better soon.
