I was served by a really friendly assistant in a large store and at the end I was handed a feedback form on the service. She was lovely except for her awful BO that made me want to flee the store asap, it was extremely bad. Would you have mentioned it on the feedback form? It went into an anonymous box.

YANBU. It will be less awkward for the manager to say 'a customer complained' rather than 'your colleagues complained'.

With it being anonymous I'd definitely do it.
In our local supermarket there used to be a member off staff who absolutely honked. It wasn't just BO but unwashed fanny and arse odour boak.
Honestly, it was so strong. Do hope she sorted it out for her sake as well as the general public.

Fill in the feedback form! I used to work and get a lift in with a lovely lady who absolutely stunk. We all knew when she was on her period cos we could smell her. The manager wouldnt say anything to her because he had no balls it took a visiting rep to say 'Gosh, have you been cooking fish' before a higher-up manager took her aside and gently made her aware.

Bless, she was initially upset, but she did improve. She just didnt realise I dont think. Because she was such a kind lady, nobody wanted to upset her.

There is a shop I go into regularly, there is a young man in there that smells the smell is so bad you can smell it as soon as you enter the shop.

I always think to myself can't his work colleagues smell him, and why hasn't the manager pulled him up about it.

Yes I would mention it on the form, I just don't understand how people can't smell themselves.

Absolutely yes, I am assuming the store does not want to lose customers. A Tesco local near work had two particularly smelly individuals on the shopfloor/tills.
It was gross I walked a bit further and went to Sainsbury, where the air smelt sweeter!

Of course mention it. That is the purpose of customer feedback and it's the kindest thing to do. I have also experienced this in a store and it is most unpleasant.

Possibly.... I used to work in a supermarket with a lovely man who unfortunately reeked! As it was a fairly small shop, we had a lot of regulars who commented on it (to me, not him) and would ask me to say something. I just couldn't. Perhaps it would have been kinder, but he was so sweet that I couldn't bear to embarrass him. An anonymous form, however, is a different matter - though I pity the poor bugger charged with telling her...

Omg feel for her, could be a medical issue. I just would not be able to, if someone was noticeably dirty would feel different though. Its so personal. As for fish smells could be Fish Odour Syndrome, which would and must be mortifying to live with.

I think people are bothered when their colleagues ming, but it's awkward to bring it up. Far easier if prompted by a customer complaint.

I had 2 sales reps come round last week (father and son) to measure up for some blinds. They both stank terribly, I could feel myself constantly moving back from them. I really wanted to call up the place and tell them but I just couldn't. They were really nice people and I know they would have known it was me.

If it was an anon feedback then yes I would.

I would mention it; anonymous customer feedback is better than someone yelling that she stinks in the store.

I've had awful days when I have somehow forgotten to put deodorant on. Maybe she did too?
But working in a supermarket, surely she could have bought some?
I probably wouldn't mention it because it would be embarrassing for her.

Thank you all. It's just occurred to me reading your replies that perhaps she was asked to hand out feedback forms in the hope that customers would mention it and give the manager solid ground for talking to the employee about it. Feedback form is going to be completed.

If its annonymous then yes. But emphaise how helpful she was too.

We have a shop near here where one of the guys sometimes stinks. TBF he hasnt been so bad lately so I presume someone said something but when he first started I was trying really hard not to retch when served by him it was really that bad.

Management really should 'manage' and bring this up with staff, its not fair on the other staff, the customers and ultimately not fair on the person to have everyone talking about it behind their back (which lets be honest they will)

I would mention it too on an anon form. There's a man in the store near me and I have to hold my breath as a go down the aisle he's working on; I feel awful but part of every job I've worked at maintaining hygiene is in the contract. I'm sure management would like the excuse of comments on the form to bring it up.

I have a corner shop I can't use near my house. The shop assistant smells so bad you can taste him as you enter the shop.

I don't think I would. Was it a restaurant or was it very warm inside the shop? I work in a busy restaurant and sometimes I'm melting by the end of shift. I think you would just stop embarrass her and retail workers have enough crap to take from managers and customers.

Mixed feelings really on this. There is a lovely guy in a local shop who stinks. I just couldn't bear to say anything about him. There is no way his boss and other staff members cannot have noticed. I think it's cowardly handing out a form, as in the OP's instance, if that is what they are hoping to achieve. It would be a tough task to handle, calling her aside and telling her, but, in my opinion, if she has a manager, the manager should do it. Clue is in their title, IMO.
