I'm on day 3 of being 'ahem' symptomatic. Whilst I'm getting a bit fed up of feeling unwell, and effectively being in quarantine, I just got on the scales and am down about 5lbs!

I was ready to die when I got norovirus in May this year.
My digestive system still hasn't recovered properly.
I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

KC225 · 09/11/2016 21:29

Glass half full when your bowels are empty. Enjoy OP.

Matchingbluesocks · 09/11/2016 21:39

I have had nuro twice and think you can tell, with a good degree of accuracy, nuro from other bugs
One of the characteristics of nuro is that the bug withholds your normal digestion for about 12 hours before the vomitting starts- it does this so
It can hoard food for the vomit. Then the vomitting is characteristically violent- it does this go spread itself as far as physically possible. The first time I had nuro I filled a bucket in a minute or two with vomit containing food that should've passed through my stomach ages ago.

I've also never known dehydration like it (due to the violence of the vomming I guess)

Anyway I currently have a tummy bug and although it's grim i know it's not the nuro.

Still yanbu to appreciate the weight loss, I am also looking somewhat concave. High five!

QueenOfTheNaps · 09/11/2016 22:17

Wow bluesocks I love the reasoning behind it. It definitely is a really strong vom and now I understand why... I think that's why I felt like it was a big tube of vom because there was just so much of it.
It's a cheeky lil fecker

Matchingbluesocks · 09/11/2016 22:22

It's a really clever, efficient virus lol. Cheeky fecker indeed

bluetongue · 10/11/2016 04:34

Currently recovering from gastro (not noro) and can't stomach the thought of eating the foods I usually love. Hoping this might kickstart of bit of a change to my (terrible) diet!

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 10/11/2016 08:37

It's the most violent kind of vomiting and diarrhoea I've ever experienced. My arse was like a tap for ages - I quite literally had no control over it. I had to sit on the toilet and be sick into the bath at the same time, as the force of it meant it came out at both ends. I thought I was dying, I was so ill. Poor DS1 was only a year old when he had it.

KondosSecretJunkRoom · 10/11/2016 08:45

YANBU. I'm with you.

I have fucking toothache. I'm losing weight with it. I imagine the true impact won't be revealed until all the cocodemol I've been taking losens its iron grip on my bowels.

KondosSecretJunkRoom · 10/11/2016 08:46

Loosens

PatrolPaw · 10/11/2016 09:08

I lost 2 stone after a tooth removal followed sharply by a vom bug...

Fun times

crashdoll · 10/11/2016 09:53

Can you come over and lick my fork or something? Too weird?! Blush

I'm having a huge and serious operation next year. I'm dreading it because it's risky but I know I'll lose a fuck tonne of weight. Every cloud and all that!

BasinHaircut · 10/11/2016 10:34

Maybe not noro then as I've only been 'sick' once, but as my stomach was empty nothing actually came out. The arse tap is still running after 4 days though Shock. And I've got an absolutely awful headache now that pills are just touching.

I'm trying to work from home but I'm really not in the mood.

Last 2 times I've had a d&v thing I've ended up in hospital to be dehydrated. One of those times I was 16 weeks pregnant. They both had the type of vomiting you are all talking about. Not nice. I do think I'm a bit sick-phobic though so I'm glad this time I've not been sick or obviously been hospitalised.

*hydrated! They didn't dehydrate me!

basin I'm recovering from exactly the same (was very sick but only once, then bum tap), it started a week ago for me but still having untrustworthy farts. I lost some weight but now I feel really bloated and desperately want it to go down as it's my birthday night out on Saturday (for my 30th no less) and I have a bodycon dress....

StartledByHisFurryShorts · 10/11/2016 10:55

Heh. Glad I'm not only one who thinks like. I've lost a bit of weight recently. Two week bout of the flu definitely helped. :)

BasinHaircut · 10/11/2016 11:44

donttouch hope you are ok by Saturday!

I'm meant to be going to a 1yo kids party but I will have to send DH and DS and stay away as i won't be 48 clear of symptoms (or only just).

I'm getting cabin fever now. Might chance a walk round the block later just to get out. Haven't been dressed since Sunday either!

noro, like any other virus can affect some more than others. Some people are violently ill, some people merely feel very sick. I wish people got that viruses have different impacts of different people at different times.

op I hope you feel better soon.

MorrisZapp · 10/11/2016 12:03

Oh jeez, there's just nothing worse than sickness is there. I make involuntary wildebeest noises on the rare occasions that I vom, causing my household to lose sympathy.

I had d&v in early days of relationship once. Sharted in DPs bed. We need a new word for 'grim'. Hope anyone with this horrible illness recovers very soon.

Matchingbluesocks · 10/11/2016 12:15

Badbadkitten nuro does have specific characteristics. Not all virus' behave the same, although of course different immune systems deal with them in different ways

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/11/2016 12:28

Norovirus as you know is a family of viruses - most common cause of tummy bug in the UK. Yes, the sickness tends to be more projectile vomiting, but I get frustrated when people are told that they can't have a particular illness because they aren't ill enough.

Interestingly those with type o blood seem to be more vulnerable to it.

QuimReaper · 10/11/2016 12:32

That is interesting Kitten, I'm a B Negative which is very rare, wonder if my apparent immunity is to do with that!

Isn't O the most common blood type though?

Matchingbluesocks · 10/11/2016 12:33

I've just a re read my post I'm sorry i completely missed punctuation Smile lol
I agree we can't really know the specific virus but at the same time
Not sure it's fair to say you'd need testing to confirm it- I know for sure when I have it. Mind you, I'm not one of those "I have a cold but it's flu" types Grin

ghostyslovesheets · 10/11/2016 12:35

I hear you

I was ill (same symptoms) on holiday last year - 5 days of no food, no wine and no swimming (all inclusive!) but I came back 5lbs lighter which was nice

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 10/11/2016 12:36

Ah, my holiday pictures after I had dysentery...

RedStripeLassie · 10/11/2016 12:37

I lost a stone in a week with gastro enteritiS. Im always trying to shift a stone but I remember thinking at the time that even weight loss wasn't worth the pain and exhaustion.
