..to sort mixed weight eggs by size?

ShowMeTheElf · 06/11/2016 11:12

I buy mixed weight eggs because they are cheaper than the ones where the producer has had to sort them. Generally 2 boxes of 15 eggs per week.
I don't often actually go to the supermarket but if I do then I open the boxes to check for breakages and generally pick out the outliers: any significantly smaller or larger than the rest. I was in Tesco yesterday and the woman beside me said she wished she had the balls to do this, which made me think it wasn't normal.
It isn't normal is it? Am I in fact some bizarre egg sorting freak?

You swap the smaller or bigger eggs with others in other boxes? I can't decide whether this is unreasonable or not. It's not something I could be arsed to do though.

DillyDilly · 06/11/2016 11:20

Of course it isn't normal. I'm surprised you even have to ask.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/11/2016 11:20

I think that's pretty mean tbh, if you want then all the same then pay for a standard size box.

YelloDraw · 06/11/2016 11:23

No, you are basically shoplifting FFS. You want large eggs, pay for a large egg box!

Mixed weight boxes are cheaper because there is a mix of sizes.

YelloDraw · 06/11/2016 11:24

Or more actually, you are stealing large eggs from some poor schmuck who picks up a box of 'mixed weight eggs' and gets them home and finds they are all small because you swapped out any big ones :-( That's mean.

NewDay10 · 06/11/2016 11:26

That's theft. You check eggs for breakages but you have no right to alter the stock. Unless you buy two boxes then get home and sort them as then you own them!

user1471446905 · 06/11/2016 11:26

I suppose it depends whether you think theft is unreasonable!

Oysterbabe · 06/11/2016 11:27

Yes it's theft.

sirfredfredgeorge · 06/11/2016 11:27

Yep, straight up shop lifter - good passive comment from the other women about you having the balls to steal!

amazingtracy · 06/11/2016 11:27

Bloody hell! You must have a lot of time on your hands!!!

sirfredfredgeorge · 06/11/2016 11:29

(btw they're cheaper because they're selling 800g of eggs, not because they don't have to sort them!)

Coulddowithanap · 06/11/2016 11:29

You can't swap the small eggs for big eggs, just buy large eggs if that is what you want.

XiCi · 06/11/2016 11:29

FFS, of course YABU. If you want them all the same size then pay the proper price. Someone else has paid for mixed size eggs only to get small ones because you have swapped the large ones out. How can you possibly think this is OK

embarrassedbuthopingitsalright · 06/11/2016 11:29

Oh god you're one of those. Take the best or yourself by robbing others. YABVU

embarrassedbuthopingitsalright · 06/11/2016 11:30

For not or

doyouwantamedalorsomething · 06/11/2016 11:30

I don't think the lady was admiring you....

slightlypeevedwombat · 06/11/2016 11:34

Yabu
You are buying mixed sizes and shouldn't swap - they are probably based on a full weight and you are swapping on your own way

Yes check for cracks and breaks but no swapping based on the size

YelloDraw · 06/11/2016 11:34

Do you honestly not see how you are fucking over the customer who buys your box off reject small eggs?

Or do you just not care?

Either stupid or selfish.

Marbleheadjohnson · 06/11/2016 11:34

That's skanky, yabu

NerrSnerr · 06/11/2016 11:36

Yes thinking about it I agree with the others, someone could end up with a box of only small ones because you've been messing them up. I don't think what the lady said to you was a compliment, I think she was politely telling you that you're fucking people over.

InfiniteSheldon · 06/11/2016 11:37

Sorry I think you're a thief too and even more grossly unfair as you are actually stealing from the next customer.

ShowMeTheElf · 06/11/2016 11:49

That's me told then. I honestly thought everyone did this :-(.
FWIW I don't take out all the small ones. I like them all to be similar so pick out the bigger ones too (and the very pointy ones because i just don't like them). I would rather have a box of 15 small/medium ones than 10 small and 5 massive.
I will stop. Lesson learnt. Thanks

Some things are better not publicised OP and this is one of them. What you are doing is leaving some other shopper with a whole box of small eggs when they have paid for mixes sizes. Can you not see that?
Learn from the slating you are getting her and don't do it again. It's theft.

I can't believe either that you were doing it in front of some other shopper. Count yourself lucky it wasn't me.

Sparlklesilverglitter · 06/11/2016 11:59

I think you have too much time on your hands.

It wouldn't even cross my mind Tbh Confused

Coulddowithanap · 06/11/2016 12:00

If you don't like the eggs in one box then check the others till you find the eggs you like the look off. That would be better than swapping the eggs around.
