..to sort mixed weight eggs by size?

I buy mixed weight eggs because they are cheaper than the ones where the producer has had to sort them. Generally 2 boxes of 15 eggs per week.
I don't often actually go to the supermarket but if I do then I open the boxes to check for breakages and generally pick out the outliers: any significantly smaller or larger than the rest. I was in Tesco yesterday and the woman beside me said she wished she had the balls to do this, which made me think it wasn't normal.
It isn't normal is it? Am I in fact some bizarre egg sorting freak?

I would rather have a box of 15 small/medium ones than 10 small and 5 massive.

So buy the box of medium eggs FFS.

It's not really ethical but then I go to the garden centre and take all the dying plants out of the reduced multi packs and replace them with healthier ones so who am I to criticise!

If you would rather have a box of small or medium eggs why dont you buy these then, why buy mixed weight?

And if you genuinely thought "everyone" did this what did you think happened to all the other eggs??

YABU, just buy a box of medium eggs

I thought you were going to say that when you get home you weigh the eggs and then arrange them in the box by size (so biggest at one end going down to smallest at the other). For that you would get a YANBU from me (because I also do it if we have mixed weight eggs)

However, YABVU to do it actually in the shop. You can't switch out egg A from box A for egg B from box B - even if you're not taking the biggest eggs. It's just not on.

Egg grading is done by weight, not dimensions, so you would need to take calibrated scales with you to do the job properly anyway. A tall pointy egg can way less than a short rounder one. To be honest, supermarkets love mixed size eggs because they get mainly medium to large eggs and pay the farmer less for them.

No, I wouldn't dream of doing this. A mixed weight box of eggs means that you are supposed to get eggs of varying size, not a box filled with large eggs.

This sort if thing really annoys me - clearly it's stealing.

The other thing is that it's not hygienic - I don't want to buy food that other people have been messing around with.

Funnily enough, I made an egg sandwich at my parent's this afternoon and noted how bloody tiny all the eggs were. Dad said he buys mixed size egg boxes so they all vary - mum said some arsehole probably goes through the mixed boxes and steals all the big eggs out leaving small ones for the next person who comes alone.
