Car insurance - Is his normal?

I've received my renewal notice for my car insurance and my premium has gone up by £30 a month

I've had my licence one year and made no claims.

i was looking forward to it going down! . I no I can look elsewhere, but any possible explanations?

It's the same every year, we have 9 yrs no claims and a small car. I find that if you get a lower price and then ring your insurance company they may price match it.

You're meant to switch providers every year to get the best price. First year with a company you technically get a joining discount.

Shop around in the Internet for the same type of cover.
It's not unusual for them to be bloody cheeky.

Just got my renewal in and it's doubled! Driving 10 years. Looked on comparison sites and found one for the same price as what am paying now. Even going direct has generated some ridiculous prices!

Totally normal, you need to shop around every year, there is no loyalty in car insurance, go with the best value

Always shop around and then ( if you like your insurer) ask them to match the lowest quote. I changed insurance company yearly, same with house normally

Get theeself to a price comparison website, you will get it cheaper. Then ring up your existing insurer and they often match the price.

Every year my insurer puts it up £60 ish. I shop around, they take £60 ish off.

Oh, okay, thanks! I did receive an email from a comparison site a few weeks ago offering a much cheaper policy, but I still thought my own provider would be at least cheaper than last year.

I've been driving for 11 years and my policy only went up £3 this year. I assumed I'd read it wrong! Last year it more than doubled and when I got a cheaper quote my insurer couldn't come close to matching it.

You should expect to shop around and switch provider every year. Most insurers absolutely shaft people who renew

And if you can possibly pay for the full year, even by putting on a 0% credit card, you'll usually find that cheaper too.

Loyalty penalty - or rather, they are banking on you not bothering to shop around.

Get a better quote, phone your insurer, ask if they will match. Repeat every year.

I am on max no claims now. My insurance quote is higher every year.

I tend to phone my company and ask outright if they can do a better price. No shame

Car insurance companies always do this I think it is in the hope that you will be too lazy to have a look for cheaper and just auto renew. Look around every year to get the cheapest deal.

There is no reward for loyalty.

You usually find they change you about £25 admin fee to send out your new quote. Robbing gits!

Most car insurers don't make money on new business. You'll have got a discount last year for being a new business customer (completely separate to your NCD). Shop around or ask if they'll reduce the cost

I have GOT to join in (and have even registered after years of lurking) - this is not my experience of car insurance. Mine has gone down every year and is now 50% of what I paid 9 years back, as a new driver. Which is what I expected - the longer I drive, the better driver I am, I'd hope. So maybe it's normal but there are car insurers out there who won't penalise your loyalty.
Just don't start me off on house insurance..!

I shopped around on house insurance when my quote went up - phoned my insurance company and said I was very disappointed in them and was going to switch companies - they reduced the amount to what I'd paid previous year which I was happy with

I'm already paying £85 a month and renewal is £117 a month with £248 deposit! There's just no way I'm paying that. I already put down a hefty voluntary excess.

Always shop around - they rely on people being complacent.
I've got 27 yrs NCD, have same car, same address, etc., and my company have tried to put mine up nearly £100 (that's per year) this renewal.
Obvs not getting my business this year.
