To drink port like wine?

BrianMolkoismyPlacebo · 10/10/2016 20:48

We usually drink wine and leave port for christmas only, but someone has bought us a bottle recently.
I'm currently on my 2nd glass of the evening. It goes down so well! How do people just sip it?!

Beware - you might regret it later (thinks back to uni days and the fact I can't stomach port at all now) Grin

BrianMolkoismyPlacebo · 10/10/2016 21:12

Oh no hells I've nearly finished my 2nd glass and have the bottle next to me! Think I should go to bed early!
Fwiw... I haven't been able to even smell peach schnapps since I was 15!!

Oh I love port!!

It's the only good thing about Xmas Grin

BrianMolkoismyPlacebo · 10/10/2016 21:20

Yes lpvely it is the best thing about xmas. Unfortunately mil has ruined this treat for us by buying it for us everytime she sees us every couple of months.

I have to be really careful when I open a bottle of port as it goes down so easy and suddenly I find most of the bottle is gone!

Cliffdiver · 10/10/2016 21:23

YABU if you're not having it alongside a cheeseboard.

Cheers Wine

WatcherOfTheNight · 10/10/2016 21:23

I love port at Christmas but I prefer it added to a glass with ice & a bottle of WKD blue,I believe it's called a "cheeky vimto"
Not something to drink when you've work the following day!Wink

ArmySal · 10/10/2016 21:23

I drank almost a full bottle once and felt like I was constantly being kicked in the head the next day. I've been put off it for life.

lapsedorienteerer · 10/10/2016 21:23

Used to like it, now find it too sweet (whiskey is fine thoughGrin).

PoppyPicklesPenguin · 10/10/2016 21:25

With smelly cheese - my favourite Grin

But it's a fine line between just enough and I'm never drinking again

Very jealous indeed

BrianMolkoismyPlacebo · 10/10/2016 21:25

cliff I have the cheeseboard... also courtesy of mil!

I did this. Once. Had the worst hangover of my entire life, and that's saying something. Never again.

BrianMolkoismyPlacebo · 10/10/2016 21:29

Right, I'm stopping at 2 glasses!

Cliffdiver · 10/10/2016 21:31

I'm looking at my glass of Pinot wishing it were port.

Can you even buy WKDs now?!

Lifegavemelemons · 10/10/2016 21:34

Port is just a kind of wine ..... that's what I tell myself as it slips down ... never had a port hangover that would put me off it Grin OTOH I haven't been able to stomach whisky since an incident when I was 20. I'm now in my 60's Blush

PoppyPicklesPenguin · 10/10/2016 21:35

I'm looking at my mug of tea wishing it was Pinot Grin

You can get WKD in my local Happy Shopper robber

Cliffdiver · 10/10/2016 21:37

OP posts:
JasmineBuckles · 10/10/2016 21:45

My boyfriend does this occasionally. He likes it warmed in the microwave to "release the flavours".

He is good for fuck all the next day.

dofeconcern · 10/10/2016 21:48

DP got shitfaced on port 25 odd years ago. I drove him home and got pulled for a knackered tail light. DP's breath hit the law as soon as I wound down the window - needless to say I was soon blowing on the breathalyser whilst DP bumbled around in the boot (like a badly co-ordinated puppy) trying to fix the bloody light . . . . Happy Memories . . apart from the fact he hasn't touched it since Grin
