Sudden inexplicable obsession

holeinyourhead · 05/10/2016 19:35

I have suddenly been obsessing about Oasis and Liam Gallagher in particular. Been going on for a week now. I can't stop listening to their music as if I am hearing it for the first time. I have been following Liam on Twitter and scouring the internet for photographs and nuggets of information about a possible reunion of the band. I was a fairly moderate fan at the time and kind of thought he was sexy back in the day but was well aware of what a complete tool he was/is as well so why this, why now? It's utter fantasy all this, I'm ashamed of myself. I can't seem to stop fantasising about what he would be like in bed and how he might seduce me, what his house is like, what his girlfriend is like. Pathetic. It's totally preoccupying my daily routine at the moment, all I want to do is play Oasis at top volume, bring it up in conversation wherever possible and endlessly stare at photos of Liam looking moody and gorgeous. I'm embarrassed to admit it, I wouldn't tell anyone I know about this. I am not an obsessive type normally. I don't have time for this kind of thing, I am a busy middle aged mother. Is this a midlife crisis? I am happily married, with a very busy job and social life. I love and still fancy my husband, we have a good sex life. I don't want for much. What the hell is happening to me? AIBU to be neglecting my kids' homework for a late-stage obsession about a 90s rock n roll star?! Please tell me this will all be over soon!

Crazy & Mary I fuckin love Dan SmithGrin I get to see him in the flesh soon

VashtaNerada · 06/10/2016 04:05

OP, I know everyone is (nicely!) taking the piss but it sounds like you are genuinely uncomfortable with how much it's taking over your life. I can definitely sympathise as I go through phases like that, where I'm living in my head a bit too much and it's getting in the way of real life. I recently fell in love with a new TV programme and I'm slightly uncomfortable with how much I seem to be thinking about it. I think the answer is to try to fill up some time with other nice things - going out and seeing friends & family etc - it will soon get back into perspective.

VashtaNerada · 06/10/2016 04:06

(Not everyone is taking the piss, that was unfair)

elodie2000 · 06/10/2016 05:56

Watched the documentary about them on iplayer.
I discovered that I had got them the wrong way round all these years...Noel is Liam and Liam is Noel.
They are both utterly repulsive in every possible way.
I hope you feel better soon OP Grin

Maryslairs · 06/10/2016 08:04

Fanni. Im so jealous. Thought of going but didnt want to Fuel my obsession. Also no one would go with me Sad. He seems so lovely inside and out.

BewtySkoolDropowt · 06/10/2016 08:15

Am I the only one that doesn't know which one is which? They are both similarly unattractive imo so I'm not going to waste my time figuring it out. The documentary looks interesting though, might watch it.

Maryslairs · 06/10/2016 08:18

My son is obsessed with Liam (in a musical way). Both him and my DP sre embarassed by my love for Dan and fed up of constantly hearing the same 2 cds in my car. Dans voice does something to me. I also could write a book sbout him, I know rhat much about him. Would love someone to tell me something horrible about him. Never read anything yet.

Maryslairs · 06/10/2016 08:18

Noel is the one with talent and can actually string sentence together.

Grin I watched Supersonic t'other night and realised Liam was pretty damn hot back in the day. I always liked Noel better though.

I've been loudly lamenting how rockstars today don't misbehave. I remember following Oasis' trail of destruction in the headlines, running to the newsagents for NME every week to find out who Noel had been slagging this time, and the worse they were the more my friends and I loved them. Today's bands are all so innocent!

I was also reminded of how I spent a lot of the 90s trying to get my hands on the classic Oasis logo tshirt in Man City blue. So I bought one on Ebay the next day.

Dan Smith is hot looking but he has a really silly wobbly voice that just doesn't do it for me! Confused

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 06/10/2016 11:00

Maryslairs

Noel is the one with talent and can actually string sentence together.

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 06/10/2016 11:01

"Maryslairs

Noel is the one with talent and can actually string sentence together."

Noel is the small one. Liam calls him Ronnie Corbett.
Liam is hot.

BummyMummy77 · 06/10/2016 13:43

Liam isn't repulsive are you lot blind?!!!!

And he's so naughty. BlushGrin

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 06/10/2016 14:00

I love listening to Oasis when I'm trying to work and am able to sing along. Not a fan of either's post oasis stuff though.

bigsnugglebunny · 06/10/2016 14:10

Not an Oasis fan at all in the slightest, but OP, if you love Liam - have a listen to Scorpio Rising by Death in Vegas. His vocals on that song are absolutely amazing, it's a proper shivers down the spine tune!

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 06/10/2016 14:29

Ohhhhh. He is adorable.

PoppyBirdOnAWire · 06/10/2016 14:30

The subtitles are freeeeeeeeeee!!!

iklboo · 06/10/2016 14:34

I've got dibs on Christopher Eccleston. He's touched me (not in a naughty way) and everything!

milkyface · 06/10/2016 14:43

holeinyourhead... You need to be yourself, you can't be no one else....

Has anyone done that one yet

There are worse people to be obsessed with Grin

holeinyourhead · 06/10/2016 14:45

Thanks for all the feedback ladies, great to hear from you all. I don't feel as mad or isolated now, in fact I feel SO much better for telling a bunch of total strangers about my unexpected fetish for the filthy smelly one with no talent in Oasis. Have got it out of my system (I hope it's not made it worse) by getting my fantasy down on paper for your entertainment. It's not X rated, don't worry.

Some might say the OP is Standing on the shoulder of giants, it cant be healthy but ... Hello ! its not a Masterplan, maybe its time to Acquiesce and just roll with it.

Zaphodsotherhead · 06/10/2016 15:55

Oh dear...and I speak as someone with unreasonable obsessions about extremely unreasonable men (Tony Robinson, anyone, yes, short, bald, fat, blind Tony...)

Just breathe deeply and try a hobby...cross-stitched Liam pictures?

oldlaundbooth · 06/10/2016 17:28

It could be worse John Barrowman, Small Animal hospital

Rainbunny · 06/10/2016 18:26

I start having random crushes and weird sex dreams around the time I'm ovulating sometimes. I also find myself noticing men's bodies a bit more at that time too... I'm mostly a complete prude who you couldn't drag to a Chippendales show but something switches on, it only happens once every 3 or more 4 months thank goodness (the last weird sex dream I had involved a politician who I can't stand in real life - very disturbing!). I figure what I occasionally experience must be what it's like to be a bloke on a daily basis lol.
