To be utterly fucking sick of Brexit?!

I'm just sick of it! Every day, everywhere you turn, Brexit Brexit Brexit! If there was some sort of app that lets you block everything to do with Brexit I would totally get it. The decision is done, it's now out of our hands, and I'm sick to death of reading/hearing about it. Every goddamn day.

Well, it is kinda relevant. Or do you just want to find out when you go to the airport one day that you can't board the plane without a visa?

Well you'll have to put up with it somehow, because it hasn't actually blimmin' happened yet.

The decision is done but the consequences will reverberate for years.

There are thousands of important decisions and changes that will have to be made to every aspect of our nation's life. Don't you want to be invoked in some of those decisions? To understand how they are being made?

They will impact your life and your children's lives in a big way. Why don't you want to hear about them?

Lots of people take no interest in politics - fair enough, that's up to them. They don't have any right to stop other people being interested though.

Unless I have completely misinterpreted the past few months, nothing has yet been decided. Apart from political rhetoric and soundbites we haven't even started yet.
I have been so disappointed in the reaction of many people. The biggest political and economic event to occur in my adult lifetime (and I'm no spring chicken) is going to decide the future of my children.

If anything I think we need to see more debate and discussion in the media.

There's a whole board for the referendum so it doesn't take over MN. It's easily avoided here if you want to.

In real life it's not so easily avoided, no. But it's a massive fuck-up decision that will affect everyone's lives for years to come. So strangely it is going to figure in the news quite a lot.

Wow Op I hope you didn't vote in the referendum! Because for some of us Brexit has the potential to actually upend our lives and while I accept the result I would like to think that those people voting had some idea of what they were voting for.
And because it's not over is it? Only 1 of many decisions has been made. Whether you consider Brexit to be an exciting opportunity or a fucking disaster at the moment you have to agree it is actually nothing tangible.
Now is the time to start talking about what it can mean (or actually a year ago would have been even better). To campaign for what we want from Brexit, to hold government accountable, to ask what the government are going to do to address the social inequalities and racism in Britain that have been thrust into the spot light since the referendum.
Or I suppose we can just bury our heads in the sand and hope May, Bojo and their hapless monkeys do what's best for people they have no understanding of.

I don't know if you're being unreasonable, but you're being a little unrealistic and have perhaps underestimated how big a deal this is. It's going to be the biggest constitutional change the UK ever gone through. There's implications for funding, law, institutions, the economy, the environment, freedom of movement, public services, political parties, potentially the Union - very few parts of life are going to be unaffected. The main work will be over the next five years, would think, but ongoing for decades. The consequences will be permanent.

As to whether it's out of our hands, there are a lot of lobby groups swinging into action now the HoC has returned. It there are important issues that you think need addressing this is the time to start campaigning before art 50 is invoked - you can be sure a lot of the incumbent parties are as they try to maintain their position.

Yes, the media keep reporting things like "We were warned Brexit would send UK into recession, but business is booming", as if Brexit has happened! It's at least two years away, and the consequences are going to massively depend on what kind of deals we make with EU and rest of the world. As we don't know what those deals are, this is going to be in the news for a good few years yet!

So stop reading the papers. It's not like someone stuck posters around your computer screen is it?

The decisions taken in the next few years will impact on us all for decades to come. There is a lot to lose. This really isn't going to go away any time soon.

You think you're sick of it now, OP? This is going to drag on for years, and years, and years. It will suck up massive amounts of government resources, it will affect numerous areas of life in this country, and it is so massive and so complex that if you wanted UK politics to focus on anything else over the next decade, then... you may be out of luck.

I think some people saw leaving the EU as like cancelling Netflix or something. "We clicked Unsubscribe, what's left to talk about?"

None of the people in charge seem to have the slightest tiny clue what happens next. Hmm, inspirational stuff. Brexit talk is going nowhere I'm afraid. I'm still optimistic that Boris and co will make such an unholy clusterfuck of trying to Brexit that we will end up staying (crosses fingers and all crossable body parts)

Had a little laugh at GO on radio 4 this morning....where your post brexit predictions wrong then? er...yes. WRONG ANSWER. We haven't actually done the deed yet...how can post brexit predictions be right or wrong till we actually hit the big red button? Until that happens it actually still might not - regardless what the PM says.

Anyway...OP YANBU because there is no point hearing all about the ins and out of things that aren't happening and may never happen...and even if they do happen and screw our lives up hugely there is still not a damn thing any of us can do to influence them.

In the circle of concern...Brexit is utterly in the space devoted to things you cannot possibly control - so it is absolutely the right thing to do to block it out of your life as much as humanly possible.

Agreed, IceBeing, about Osborne on Today. I think he did say something about the impact will work out in the long term, but I thought he would say "the markets went into a spin after the vote, sterling tumbled, yields fallen further, we've had some bounce back, which is great, but Brexit hasn't even happened yet and we've no idea what deal we'll get, so I still worry that it will hit our economy hard." (I'm not a GO fan, but it surprised me he wasn't more robust.
