to withdraw from a subject?

I'm in uni. I'm really struggling.

The last day of withdrawing so it will be seen as withdrawn without fail is on the 23rd.

What's the subject? Do you mean dropping one subject (I.e as part of a Combined Honours degree) or do you mean drop out of Uni altogether?

Just the subject. But I'd have to take it again as it is a core.

It's Python programming.

You could withdraw and instead do code academy etc to get practice?

Just thinking of the money we spent on the tuition. :( DH said it's ok, just practice and take it again.

Yeah, it's a core subject. I'm doing Information Systems.

If you have to take it because it's a core subject, maybe it's worth persevering. Can you speak to your tutor about getting some additional support?

I remember having some additional discussions with a tutor over a few issues I was having in a subject, and it really helped me to straighten it out in my head.

If you retake it, do you have to pay again?

If you fail it, can you retake it later so that does not affect your GPA?

The cost of the fees that will not be refunded and your dh says don't worry about - how much is it?

When would you take it again? Feb?

Will that mean Feb is extra busy as you will do what you should be doing plus this again?

If I'm reading it correctly then if you withdraw the loss is mainly financial? You'll still need to take it but you can get some more input and hopefully feel more confident. If you plough on, you don't pay twice but a poor mark could affect your overall grade?

Do you think extra time will help it 'click'? In that case if DH agrees with you to pay the extra funding I'd probably withdraw but get lots of extra help before trying again.

Yeah, it's the money and it will show in the transcript as withdrawn without fail. This is my second semester, and my grades have been above average so far so I don't want to tarnish it.

I know I can do it but I just need more time and maybe more warm up. This is my first programming subject.

Also, I might have to extend for a semester and graduate late, but there's danger of that happening now anyway because I got an internship and need to go part time to accommodate it.

I'm also in Australia and I've just withdrawn from one of my subjects - I'm now on 3/4 load. I missed census date deliberately (because I needed my full load scholarship) so I'll have to pay eventually (I'm deferring my fees through HECS) but figure that if I pay my SAF every semester from now on as it comes due it'll balance out the cost of the additional subject on my HECS.

Like you I was worried about bringing down my GPA if I kept trying with this subject this semester and I'd rather try again at a later date.

I all honesty, if you're really struggling with the subject at week 8 it's not worth carrying on - there's only 13 weeks left in the semester so you don't have long left to get to grips with it.

I'll also be on 3/4 if I withdraw from this subject. The thing is, during class I understand it but I can't seem to solve problems. :( It's like I can't grasp the logic.

I withdrew as I didn't have the time to get my head around the subject - we've had a lot of illness in the extended family and my other subjects are so full on they're completely overwhelming and I just didn't have the time to for everything.

I've got a friend who's withdrawn from the same subject 3 times and she's finally getting her head around it. She's also on a 3/4 load and she wants to do masters then PhD so needs a high GPA - withdrawal without fail is no shame. The stress of struggling and trying can often make things worse.

Cool toned your last post answers your question! It seems you will have to graduate later and your DH is ok with your withdrawing and postponing taking the subject so it looks like there very good reason to withdraw, especially as you feel you will have a better chance of passing with good marks later.
It's sometimes difficult to admit you need to withdraw when you've previous done so well but It will be a relief once you've done it and you can concentrate on your other subjects while you get up to speed with Python.

Isn't problem solving a key part of information systems regardless of the language used?

Do you have to learn any more languages as part of the course?

I meant programming problems.

No, this is the only programming subject necessary. I did database last sem. The rest of the core subjects are more of business IT subjects.
