dh talks in bloody riddles

Am really not sure if iabu here…

If you asked you dh if he'd read the instructions before doing something and he replied "I couldn't read them on my phone, so I printed them out yesterday" would you think:

A. He read them
B. He didn't read them

Wonder if you'll agree with me.

Ooo... It is ambiguous. I would probably say that if I'd printed them out but they were still in my bag and I planned to read them later....

I would have expected him to read them having gone to the trouble of printing them so A, but I bet it's B.

Yes he printed and read them. It's very vague though because it COULD be "I printed them to read but I didn't so I'm going to answer vaguely so you think I did"

Agh, you're all smarter than me.

Yes, he printed them out and carried them in his bag for three days.

Then when he explained the instructions to me, and I found it confusing, said that's what he assumed they would say, if he'd read them.

I frequently have mini rows with my OH when he answers a question I didn't ask but won't answer the one I did ask and he can't understand whey I get annoyed by this...

He's answering the question he wants you to have asked him.
DH does this.
My reply "That wasn't what I asked you. Please answer the question".

On a good day I would politely ask, so did you get chance to read them? On a normal day I would repeat my original question very clearly, he will then repeat his non-answer, I then explain the simplicity of the original question being a yes or no answer. Again I repeat the question. I really don't show him any respect when doing this as I am far too irritated by the lack of clarity and obvious avoidance.
I'm not recommending my approach whatsoever but I do feel the ire.

He might be being tricky, or wilfully misleading you - equally he might just be communicating sloppily - I do that a lot with no malintent.

If I ask dh has he read instructions it is only sarcastically, because he never has. He does not believe he needs them for anything, ever. Apart from the dcs complicated lego

My DH talks in riddles too.

He asked me to remind him to phone a man who wanted a certain job doing...so I reminded him the other morning as asked....he then said "Oh yes, if you could remind me again tomorrow then I'll have more time to ring him....OH....and that other job!"

By "other job" he means a job our neighbour wants doing.

SO I reminded him the day after of both jobs and he was confused...saying "I've done the neighbours job"

Apparently when he said "Oh and that other job" that was to himself.

DH does this, but DS is starting too!

Me: What would you like for breakfast DS?
DS: The same as I had yesterday
Me: What was that?
DS: The same as the day before
Me: Was it Blueberry Wheats?
Dad: I don't really like Blueberry Wheats
Me: what do you like?
DS: Well you know I like fish and chips ....
Me: Get your own breakfast

He's 8 next week. It's not as if he doesn't have the vocabulary to tell me what he really wants. It also means he can get his own breakfast.

Ha! I was going to say "didn't" as well. Glad to be vindicated!

DH is another one incapable of asking the question asked. DS1 is now starting to do the same but at least with him I KNOW it's because he's not listening properly, so he gets pulled up on that. In fact he just did it earlier - and I told him if he hadn't heard the question properly, he was to ask me what I'd said, not make up some random rubbish based on the ONE word he actually did hear.
