I always eat the skin, pile of pips of you peel it?

SuburbanRhonda · 21/08/2016 20:41

Non-peeler here. Life's too short Smile

ABloodyDifficultWoman · 21/08/2016 20:42

I always thought you had to discard the skin but I read recently that most people eat it!

MiddleClassProblem · 21/08/2016 20:42

My family were peelers but it's more common to not. If you order a salad with figs in a restaurant it comes with peel about you eat the whole thing

lasttimeround · 21/08/2016 20:42

You eat all of the figures. The burst of teeth through the outer skin is crucial

Heirhelp · 21/08/2016 20:42

I always eat it. Why would you not? It is soft so it is pleasant to eat and full of fibre and vitamins.

lasttimeround · 21/08/2016 20:43

The fig goddammit the fig

Verticalvenetianblinds · 21/08/2016 20:44

i washed it and tucked in, she couldnt believe her eyes! its not like an orange....
(does anyone eat orange peel?)

OP posts:
MiddleClassProblem · 21/08/2016 20:44

Orange peel in fruit cake or candied

LookMoreCloselier · 21/08/2016 20:45

I eat it, had no idea there were people who didn't. Yum, I haven't had them in ages but love figs wrapped in parmesan stuffed with blue cheese or creme fraiche with horseradish.

LookMoreCloselier · 21/08/2016 20:45

lol i meant parma ham, not parmesan

Verticalvenetianblinds · 21/08/2016 20:45

in season at aldi :)

MiddleClassProblem · 21/08/2016 20:46

Verticalvenetianblinds · 21/08/2016 20:48

My DH eats orange peel, but he's a bit odd.

HemanOrSheRa · 21/08/2016 20:49

Mmmmmm. Ripe fresh figs. I just nip off the stalky bit at the top and tuck in. You can't peel fresh figs. Good, ripe ones are so expensive if you peeled them you'd be left with nothing except a load of purple mush. Anyway, the contrast of slightly chewy skin and soft pippy centre is what makes them delicious.

Verticalvenetianblinds · 21/08/2016 20:49

apparently work colleague peels mushrooms to? i just rinse the mud off!

OP posts:
MiddleClassProblem · 21/08/2016 20:50

Peels mushrooms? She/He's a bellend

MiddleClassProblem · 21/08/2016 20:51

She

lasttimeround · 21/08/2016 20:51

If I saw her peeling mushrooms I would find if v hard not to laugh

HemanOrSheRa · 21/08/2016 20:51

I don't even rinse mushrooms, just give them a wipe. And I don't eat orange peel but I do pass many a happy hour by making Dick Emery style false teeth out of them.

Velvetdarkness · 21/08/2016 20:52

I eat kiwi skin. Apparently most people scoop out the inside with a spoon?
And yes I eat fig skin. And mushroom "skin".

WhingyNinja · 21/08/2016 20:54

I eat fig skin, but not orange peel and you should never rinse mushrooms, they get all waterlogged! I just brush with kitchen towel but if you want to be fancy I'm sure theres an overpriced brush that'll do the job in your local cookware shop ;)

MiddleClassProblem · 21/08/2016 20:56

Ew at eating kiwi skins though!

ABloodyDifficultWoman · 21/08/2016 20:58

People eat Kiwi skin? That must feel like tucking into a fully engorged bollock! No thanks! Grin
