Mushrooms definitely need wiping with a damp kitchen towel or such. Don't they grow in poo?!
As for figs, eat whole no peeling.

drigon · 21/08/2016 23:06

I always eat fig skin, but not the woody, stalky bit at the top. Can't eat peach skin, but do eat plum and nectarine skin.It would be very odd to peel it IMO.

Storminateapot · 21/08/2016 23:06

Figs are a skin-on thing. Ooh I love fresh figs!

I used to peel mushrooms when I was young & didn't know any better. Now I just give them a wipe to get any obvious dirt off.

Meeep · 21/08/2016 23:12

Figs in Aldi you say?

hotdiggedy · 22/08/2016 14:04

Fig and mushroom- no peeling.

Kiwi- peel them!

LauraMipsum · 22/08/2016 15:28

Never occurred to me to peel a fig. Eat the whole thing, wasp corpse and all!

(Yes, they really do contain wasps: insufferablevegan.com/tag/are-figs-vegan/)

KoalaDownUnder · 22/08/2016 16:28

No peeling required.

God I bloody love figs.

Fig fig fig fig. I feel happy now.

WhingyNinja · 22/08/2016 17:11

I went to Aldi and bought figs, I just had to!

Verticalvenetianblinds · 23/08/2016 20:15

drigon do you peel peaches?!

OP posts:
SquidgeyMidgey · 23/08/2016 20:20

Wasps?! No more figs here.

I peel mushrooms and kiwi but not peaches.

FadedRed · 23/08/2016 20:34

YA all BU to eat figs. They are the Devils testes and the last word in horrendousness. Along with dates, especially those dates concealed in cereals like muesli.
I do however, like a nice bit of orange/mandarin/satsuma peel.
I am also a bit odd.

Heidi41 · 23/08/2016 21:00

Kiwi skins great for constipation! Eat the fig skin too of course

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 23/08/2016 21:32

And you fell for that Wink

On the original topic. DH is North African and his family have loads of fig trees in the garden in his home country. They don't peel them.

Mrscog · 23/08/2016 21:32

My boss used to eat kiwi skin - I tried it but it was like eating a tarantula! (Well not that I've tried that either but I just couldn't get the image out of my head!)

Heidi41 · 23/08/2016 21:32

Do you have to gargle with it Vertie? Grin

Verticalvenetianblinds · 23/08/2016 22:00

dh would have me believe every night a dose is good for your health. i, however, do not go along with that and yet, never have a sore throat?

Thank you so much for this thread. I am nearly 40 and had no idea how to eat a fig until now so I've avoided them. Now I can tuck in, skin and all without committing a faux pas!

hollyisalovelyname · 23/08/2016 22:15

Verticalvenetianblinds · 23/08/2016 22:23
