To not share my medicine?

I have a condition that means I take a lot of painkillers, I have 2 types, codiene for when it's not too bad and tramadol for when it's really bad.

A friend of dp has told him he can't work atm because he has hurt himself, 0 hour contract so no money, dr won't give him anything strong enough so he's having to buy tramadol off a friend but he's running low.

Dp told him I have an emergency stockpile of those ( to tide me over until I get a new prescription when it's bad) that I'm not using and I have them on repeat prescription no questions asked and I know all about pain so would t charge him

I've said no. Apart from it being illegal dp is a bit naive whereas I've been around addicts and to me this screams addiction/drug abuse and he was chancing it knowing about my condition.

Tramadol is prescribed fairly routinely by doctors if pan is severe. If the doctor is refusing there's probably a good reason. Stay well clear of this, your gut feeling may well be right...

No, no, absolutely not, YANBU!! Your DP was really wrong to offer your medicine to his mate. I'd be bloody furious if my DH did this. It's yours, the mate can fuck off, frankly. Buying Tramadol from someone else is a red flag, you're right.

It's not a case of "not sharing" - prescriptions are for one person.
I also have a small "emergency" stash of meds in case I frequently forget to order a repeat, and I'd be pretty fucked if I went to use them and found they'd all been "shared".

It's illegal to pass on prescribed medications O think. And on the no questions asked he could well be wrong. Last time I went to the GP with dd2 he told her the estimated percentage of her repeat prescription she was remembering to take. So they do keep track of how many you're taking and if it starts looking too many will ask questions/refuse to give you more.

I have to sign for dh's tramadol when I pick it up. My gut instinct would be to not sell/ give any to dh's friend too. If his GP isn't prescribing it there has to be good reason, albeit he has to go through all the standard low level painkillers first before they get to the level tramadol is at.

I'd be worried now that dh might help himself to your medicine if he really doesn't get why it's a bad idea.

Hell no. No anyway; but also no because if you do it once and he gets hurt again (or pretends to be, if he gets addicted) you will be expected to keep on doing it. Your doctor would have a complete shit attack if they thought you were diverting controlled, potentially addictive drugs. No. I'd give DH a bollocking too, what the hell was he thinking helpfully offering for you to break the law for his mate?

My best/closest friend knows I have Tramadol and cocodamol on prescription and told her brother and boyfriend who both use it for recreational purposes and now i get constant messages asking if their poorly dads/grans/goldfish can borrow a few strips until the gp sorts out a mistake with their prescriptions. I feel like a neighbourhood fucking dealer. It isnt right.

Also you can buy cocodomol OTC, so there's no excuse for getting it for free off someone else's script.

I just thought that I would add that the reason tramadol was made a CD was that it was increasingly being found to be implicated in drug deaths.

Of the 581 drug related deaths in Scotland in 2012, tramadol was present or implicated as a contributory factor to the death in 48 cases.

I don't know what you think but to me it is fairly shocking that one in every 12 drug deaths involved tramadol.

You know all the crap you get told about not drinking with them and they ask what other medication your on? Yeah, that's actually important because drugs shouldn't be randomly given to people without any checks. What if he overdosed? What if he sold them on?

OTC co-codamol contains 8mg of codeine and 500mg of paracetamol whereas prescription co-codamol contains either 15mg or 30mg of codeine and 500mg of paracetamol.

That is why people want the prescription type instead of the OTC type, not usually because it is free.
