...to not wash this knife?

Was chopping veg, used the knife I was using to stab the pack of chicken drumsticks so I could peel the film back more easily, then resumed chopping veg. DH thinks this is an unconscionable approach to food hygiene (and he said those exact words because he's weird), I think it's fine.

Well it isn't very good practice but you won't come to any harm assuming the veg is going to be properly cooked/heated. If it's any consolation my DP is a chef and I am forever being told off for using the wrong chopping board etc. It's supposed to be red for raw meat, green for veg etc...

Personally I would have washed the knife but if the veg was going in the dish with the raw chicken then that's fine. Seeing as the contaminated knife touched the chopping board, I'd make sure that's cleaned properly.

If the veg is going to be cooked it's not a catastrophe but it would be VU if the veg going to be eaten raw.

Mind you I careful about "stabbing" chicken packs in case there is any spray of liquid or some such.

I tend to cut open with scissors, over the sink.

Absolutely I'd have washed the knife.

I do have a special knife I use for opening packets of meat though that's a bit blunter than the others.
I would hate to get it mixed up whilst cooking.

I'm a slattern but I keep raw meat and veg stuff very separate.

Chop veg. Open raw chicken package. Put knife in to wash.

YABU - keep raw chicken or it's juices away from ANYTHING.

If not using different utensils, then definitely wash in between.

BTW all people people saying wood is worse are wrong. Research shows that with scarred surfaces (i.e. used chopping boards) wood is better. There are bacteria but they don't reproduce as well in wood and don't come to the surface either. Unless you are using glass chopping boards (which I hate but they are better) you should use wood.
