WWYD re holiday.

This may out me but I am not sure I care.

Booked a caravan holiday in Feb for 8 of us 6 kids 2 adults.

OH got sent away unexpectedly with work so can't come.

DSS decided to cancel his leave and visit us when his dad is back.

DS1 was refused the time off (peak season).

DS2 dad told him he's booked a holiday the same week (without checking Angry)so DS2 doing half the holiday with me half with his dad.

DSD's mum was happy for them both to come but we have fallen out and she's now saying "they don't want to come" (on their only holiday in 6 yrs?!).

DD (16) has just said her holiday job have refused to give her the time off. She is refusing to allow me to speak to the manager. I am not happy to leave her and DS1 here alone (he has form).

My friend is planning to come but has a new job so now unsure if she can (for whole week).

Do I just cancel and accept the loss and never book a family holiday again or go and possibly be miserable/alone most of week.

I would have said go alone and sod the rest of them but you said you don' t want to leave DS1 unattended.

So if you don't want to leave him can someone keep an eye on him and you go away for what sounds like a well deserved rest?

Ffs she booked it in February. 🙄

I would go! Take books, prosecco, laptop for DVDs have a week relaxing by yourself, beachside walks, nice cafes, sounds bliss!

I think the booking was made in Feb, but for dates in the summer.

I guess the thing is it's a "family" holiday park and am feeling a bit Sad and isolated ATM so I wonder if this is going to compound that feeling further.

Can you look at it as "me time" . It may be a family park but you could call them and ask for a quiet spot. People pay a fortune to go on retreats by themselves!

I have asked my mum if she fancies it Blush.

The thought of a week by myself doesn't fill me with glee if I am honest.

Maybe I'll go with DS2 and see how I get on - I wondered about asking on FB if anyone would like to join me for a few days but that's kind of very sad.....Sad

I'd go by myself. A week to myself, pleasing myself, relaxing and reading, going to see things I wanted to see and eating what appealed to me would suit me very well.

I think a caravan holiday is 100 times more appealing than a spa break. I absolutely would go. A week of peace and quiet, day trips and long walks is my idea of heaven. And if you're alone you're more likely to meet new people (if that's what you want). Plus it's good to push yourself out of your comfort zone once in a while.

Ask around your friends and see who wants to join you? I would go if invited by a friend?

Don't not go, you will be resenting it at home. I would love a bit of me time, broken up by a couple of visitors. I have holidayed alone.

Are you absolutely sure you can not negotiate something with the holiday caravan owner/company? If you were to explain that OH has to work, maybe they might consider swapping your week for a later one as I'd guess a week in August would be reasonably easy to resell. Even an autumn long weekend would be better than nothing. Or could you resell the caravan week, get names changed on booking?

Don't cancel and don't stay home!!!
Even if you just say to yourself you'll go for 3 days and come back.
You'll get a change of scenery and without all those children - maybe some time to yourself!

Yeah I think I was feeling a bit sorry for myself as have had a few months where everything has gone "wrong".

I could do with the break - OH is forces and it was all a bit of an unexpected shock.

I am sad for my DSDs as they were excited and Ibwas leaving open for them to "change their minds" but I don't think that is going to happen Sad

That's good news (hopefully).

I remember your other thread, when your DS was told that his Dad had booked the holiday, at least that's sorted out.

Go and try to make the best of it.

Things are in the process of changing, with the age your children are at.
