AIBU?

To think asking £129 for one shopkin is daft.

Surely no one on earth will pay that much for a piece of plastic tat however "rare". Are second hand shopkins really that valuable?

WTF is a 'shopkin'?

How much would this piece of spangly tat have cost in a retail outlet? Looks like one of those things that people make and sell on FB pages!

Some sad twat will buy it.

Wish my dd wouldn't swap rare ones for common ones but she will learn eventually.

Shopkins are the latest craze to hit Dd's primary. I bought a bag of 50 for £13 including postage.I am using them as bribery for good behaviour. if she gets enough stars on her star-chart then she can get one piece of plastic tat.

I was looking at eBay and I came across the advert.

Really, my mother in law bought a bag for my daughter and they were all fake. Your daughter might not notice or care but mine could tell straight away!

There was one going for 8k on ebay recently.

I live for the day one of the DD's get an ultra rare. It's going straight on ebay.

This one is a Limited Edition, you'd know if it was fake as the genuine ones come with certificates etc. Don't mean to sound like a sad sack, I'm an EBay seller and have sold quite a few Limited Editions, all bought by people in America, all for £300+

Ridiculous, but true I promise you!

ABloodyDifficultWoman · 24/07/2016 22:28

This sounds like a good wheeze then! Where do you get these things? How much are they? How many 'limited edition' editions are there?

CoolToned · 24/07/2016 22:29

But why is that popular? It's a plastic shoe?

My 6 year old loves these. I don't even under what they are. Small plastic food with faces that don't even do anything Confused how does that appeal!?

ReallyTired what were the £13 ones like? I got put off by some of the feedback saying they were falling apart and made with dodgy plastics (whatever a dodgy plastic is!). I don't think my dd would notice a fake so I was tempted by them.

It's only the earlier "seasons" that fetch the silly prices now. When they stopped manufacturing the older ones the value obviously went up as people were trying to complete their collections. As a seller you just had to know where you were still able to source them from. Personally I found a toy shop in Germany that had loads of stock and would ship to the UK very cheaply (sadly they're now sold out). I was just lucky that the packs I bought had some Limited Editions in them, though it's still easy to make a good profit even on the less rare ones.

I had never heard of these things until now. Maybe the craze hasnt swept through the whole of the UK yet?

Oi, we have a bag of fakes. I'm not sure about any safety issues but my 9 year old realised instantly although I'm not sure if a 6 year old would.

TheHunting, you would think that but no, a limited edition season 4 was going for a few thousand on ebay a few months ago too. Gemma something...
