AIBU to be annoyed

tiggerbounce77 · 07/06/2016 12:20

Well today is my birthday and I have brought cakes into the office, everyone has taken one, not one of them has thanked me or wished me a happy birthday. My boss hasn't even acknowledged it's my birthday.
AIBU to be a little annoyed?

MTPurse · 07/06/2016 12:22

Do they know its your birthday?

BeautyQueenFromMars · 07/06/2016 12:22

Nope, YANBU, it's rude to take without thanking, and especially rude to not acknowledge it's your birthday. If it wasn't, they wouldn't be getting cakes!

Happy Birthday!! Flowers Cake

Oysterbabe · 07/06/2016 12:23

I'm sure someone will be going out at lunch to get you card. Happy birthday!

VioletBam · 07/06/2016 12:24

Shock How many were there? You mean each person came up, took a cake and didn't say anything? Happy Birthday though... Flowers Cake

tiggerbounce77 · 07/06/2016 12:27

They know it's my birthday as we were discussing it yesterday. The cakes are in the kitchen but we are quite a small team.

Just feeling quite upset by it :(

OP posts:
Queenbean · 07/06/2016 12:29

Did you send an email saying "cakes in the kitchen in honour of turning another year older" or similar? Otherwise how does anyone know what the mystery cakes are for?

Happy birthday btw! Cake

tiggerbounce77 · 07/06/2016 12:31

Everyone knows cakes are for birthdays, was even seen walking in with them. Will be glad to finish work today

OP posts:
tiredbuthappyworkingmum · 07/06/2016 12:39

What normally happens on someone's birthday in your office?

VioletBam · 07/06/2016 12:39

Do they even talk to you? Say anything?

Queenbean · 07/06/2016 12:40

Nope! People often leave cakes out here for no reason at all - leftover from meetings particularly. I doubt every single person saw you walk in with them so they wouldn't know who to thank.

Just send an email now saying "Left cakes in the kitchen earlier in honour of my birthday; please enjoy!"

People can't wish you a happy birthday if they don't know. Don't be a petulant child about it.

tiggerbounce77 · 07/06/2016 12:41

Yes, we all talk and mostly get along quite well

tiggerbounce77 · 07/06/2016 12:45

They all knew today is my birthday as we had a big discussion about it yesterday and at how useless my partner would be at birthdays. We are a small team so there would only be cake for a special reason, people don't bring cake in just because they feel like it and it wouldn't be left overs from meetings etc as we don't have them here

OP posts:
tiggerbounce77 · 07/06/2016 13:02

Would i be unreasonable to take the remaining cakes with me when I finish for the day?

OP posts:
molyholy · 07/06/2016 13:07

Happy 7th birthday OP. I assume you are about that age. Yes. Take your cakes home with you and don't forget to slam the door when you stomp off.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 07/06/2016 13:11

Oh piss off moly where's the need to act like that?!

tiggerbounce77 · 07/06/2016 13:12

Thank you for the support Paul. I am guessing moly is one of those that doesn't say thank you when something has been given

OP posts:
lalaloopyhead · 07/06/2016 13:13

Take no notice of the people saying you are being childish.

I work in a small office and everybody knows when it is someone's Birthday, your colleagues are rude! Who goes and helps themselves to a cake without finding out who's they are or where they came from first??

Mycatsabastard · 07/06/2016 13:15

Happy birthday!!

I hope that at some point they will all come over and give you a card and say Happy birthday to you.

If they don't, take the bloody cakes home and don't bother next year.

RiverTam · 07/06/2016 13:15

That's crappy and mean. Happy birthday🎂🍰🎂🍰

Buckinbronco · 07/06/2016 13:16

Rude!

molyholy · 07/06/2016 13:16

On the contrary. If I was in your office, I definitely would have thanked you and wished you a happy birthday, but as a PP said, you do sound petulant.

wannabehippyandcrazycatlover · 07/06/2016 13:17

Oh Moly aren't you lovely. It's the OPs birthday, she's upset and you're being really rude.

YANBU that's just rude - take the remaining cakes home and enjoy them in the sunshine with a glass of fizz.

Happy birthday CakeFlowers

BeautyQueenFromMars · 07/06/2016 13:17

You don't sound petulant OP, you sound disappointed and little upset. As I would be.

NaraDeer · 07/06/2016 13:19

I don't blame you for feeling upset, OP.
Try not to let it ruin your day though.

Happy birthday! FlowersCakeWine
