AIBU to be annoyed

tiggerbounce77 · 07/06/2016 12:20

Well today is my birthday and I have brought cakes into the office, everyone has taken one, not one of them has thanked me or wished me a happy birthday. My boss hasn't even acknowledged it's my birthday.
AIBU to be a little annoyed?

That is why I was asking on here if I was being unreasonable, I just thought it quite rude to not even shout 'thanks for the cake' as they leave the kitchen, not expecting a card or anything, just to be acknowledged. Even my boss has forgotten:(

You sound disappointed that your colleagues haven't even acknowledged that you brought in cakes when they knew it was your birthday. No idea what moly thinks petulant is but rest easy knowing she's the only one who has behaved like a dick.

ReginaBlitz · 07/06/2016 13:20

Go and grab the remaining cakes, shove candles in them and sit at your desk singing "happy birthday to me" loud as fuck and I'm sure they will get the message.

GloGirl · 07/06/2016 13:22

Theyre all fuckers. Dont let them off it will eat you up, make sure you tell someone it's your birthday today, let them tell you they wish you a happy birthday.

They're all fuckers, from me to you. Happy birthday Cake

Regina, I think if I did that I would start to blub halfway through, feeling a little emotional today

Is it the aim of AIBU for at least one person to give a harsh reply when a harsh reply is not needed?? Surely it is perfectly clear that the OP is absolutely not being unreasonable.

Happy Birthday OP! Flowers The people in your office are rude.

RhiWrites · 07/06/2016 13:29

Email the team and say "Hi folks, Hope you've all seen the cakes in the office to celebrate my birthday. Please help yourself if you haven't had one yet."

Hopefully a flurry of congrats will roll in.

tiggerbounce77 · 07/06/2016 13:33

Fortunately I am leaving for the day very shortly. I think it's too late in the day to send round an email. Will have to make a note to myself next year to not bother

YANBU

It's so uncaring that they can't be bothered with a "happy birthday" and/or a "thank you" Sad

Happy Birthday Flowers

plantsitter · 07/06/2016 13:40

I would send an email subject line 'cakes in the kitchen' and saying

I am going home soon. If nobody wishes me a bloomin' happy birthday I'm taking the cakes with me!

Yours
The Birthday Girl

(disclaimer: I haven't worked in an office for ages and the last one I worked in was extremely informal...)

plantsitter · 07/06/2016 13:41

Oh yeah happy birthday OP sorry Flowers

Diamondangel8 · 07/06/2016 13:41

Happy birthday! Try not to let this upset you. Its only your birthday one day a year. They are not worth it. XXX

Friolero · 07/06/2016 13:43

Happy birthday tigger Cake

YANBU to be annoyed, they're being quite rude.

RaspberryOverload · 07/06/2016 13:47

Happy Birthday OP Thanks

You're not being petulant, but if everybody in what you say is a small team has taken cake and not bothered to either thank you, or give congratulations, then I'm not surprised you're feeling a little upset.

If I was taking cake, I'd be saying thanks, and it the cakes were for a birthday, I'd make a point of wishing that person a happy birthday. It would be rude otherwise.
