Urgent- brunch for guests

I probably am BU posting here but I urgently need brunch ideas for guests on their way to DH and I now. A very close friend and her DH are traveling 250 miles each way to see us today. We have a nice day planned but I said I'd have a brunch ready at the end of their journey. They'll be here in less than two hours but there's a tesco open a ten minute walk away.

At the end of a for hour drive with an early start what food/ drink would you want?

Thank you MN!

Full English? You really have to ask?

PPie10 · 22/05/2016 08:46

A warm pasta and some lovely rolls/ salad is easy and quick to rustle up.

ClutterofStarlings · 22/05/2016 08:46

For brunch I would tend to think of eggs, muffins (English, not sweet), fruit? But surely they'll be arriving around lunchtime, so would it be easier to do early picky lunch?

CoraPirbright · 22/05/2016 08:47

American pancakes, maple syrup, crispy bacon. Really good oj, poss some fizz if appropriate?? Yum!

LagunaBubbles · 22/05/2016 08:47

How about a quick cold buffet, put out some nice bread, hand, cheeses, pate, salad etc? People can help themselves.

ParadiseCity · 22/05/2016 08:47

Fruit yoghurt muffins croissants jam and butter and coffee Brew

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 22/05/2016 08:47

Cooked breakfast. With all the trimmings, hash browns, mushrooms etc. Something for everyone then.

calzone · 22/05/2016 08:48

Scrambled eggs, bacon or smoked salmon, croissants with nice jam, fresh orange juice and hot coffee!

chelle792 · 22/05/2016 08:48

Bacon and egg sandwiches! Every time!

LagunaBubbles · 22/05/2016 08:48

But I've now read Coras reply, mmm!

Purplehonesty · 22/05/2016 08:48

Calzone I will be round in a minute yum.

confusedandemployed · 22/05/2016 08:49

I'd go eggs, bacon, muffins, nice bread rolls, tomatoes and fresh fruit.good coffee and OJ with fizz on standby.

DoItTooJulia · 22/05/2016 08:49

I'm seeing eggs benedict/florentine.

But bacon sarnies in crusty bread would be fine too.

Big pot of tea and coffee, posh orange juice and you're away!

Choughed · 22/05/2016 08:49

Pastries, rolls, honey, jam, cheeses, ham, eggs, fresh fruit, pancakes or drop scones, yogurts.

Fruit juices, Buck's Fizz, fresh coffee.

Dammit now I'm really hungry!

Isthereeverarightime1 · 22/05/2016 08:50

Agree with Cora 100% 😍 that sounds perfect

IHaveBrilloHair · 22/05/2016 08:51

Fritatta, a plain one but then put out plates of asparagus, mushrooms, tomatoes, crusty bread etc.
Lovely fruit, Greek yoghurt and honey for afters

londonrach · 22/05/2016 08:53

Not american pancake...yuk. What do your guests like. Id go for either a pizza with salad bits if nice outside or a full english.... Afterall it is sunday and bruch time....

Aquiver · 22/05/2016 08:53

I would do as Choughed suggested but add the option of eggs (boiled, scrambled, poached etc), sausages and bacon for those that want.

You can cook these in a few minutes in a pan or pre-heated oven to save on wastage, while everyone selects what they want from the ready 'continental' items.

Definitely serve good coffee, juices and yes - maybe some fizz!

GrumpyOldBag · 22/05/2016 08:53

If you knew they were coming why did you not plan in advance?

I'd do bagels, smoked salmon, cream cheese. Some fruit. Fresh juice and lots of coffee.

Keep it simple but delicious.

sarahandemily · 22/05/2016 08:54

I'd cook lots of bacon and sausage and put it out with nice bread/ rolls. Croissants and pain au choc, strawberries, coffee and oj. Looks like you have made an effort but actually pretty easy

londonrach · 22/05/2016 08:54

Drop scones.....😍

Aquiver · 22/05/2016 08:54

Sorry Choughed - you did suggest eggs! Smile

ShinyShinyShiny · 22/05/2016 08:55

French toast casserole with strawberries?

VioletBam · 22/05/2016 08:56

Sarah has it! Then there's something for everyone even if they're not that hungry...AND something sweet or savoury!

Windsofwinter · 22/05/2016 08:57

Eggs Benedict. Hmm, might have to send DP out for supplies Wink
