To wonder why fish and chip shops don't usually deliver?

Kebab, Pizza, Indian and Chinese takeaways usually do. So why not fish and chip shops?

Or is this just my area?

Hmm

We have a couple that do. Not tried them though

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 17/05/2016 17:21

They all do round here but some have a minimum spend of a tenner.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 17/05/2016 17:21

We have one which does.

Most Chinese take out round here also do fish and chips. They all deliver.

tabulahrasa · 17/05/2016 17:22

They all do here as well.

dowhatnow · 17/05/2016 17:22

Do they go soggy quicker than the others?

ephemeralfairy · 17/05/2016 17:22

I've never known a chippy to deliver. Rubbish.

retrodiva · 17/05/2016 17:22

I think they'd go soggy.

corgiology · 17/05/2016 17:22

Just had a look and hungry house and just eat do it through them but not direct from the chippie. Weird.

We have one near us but they ALWAYS get the order wrong so I don't bother anymore.

They never used to, but since online ordering I have found a few do.

I think it's a cost thing. I am not up to date with costs but you can normally get a meal for one for under a tenner at a chippie whereas you always seem to spend at least £20-30 on a pizza, chinese or curry especially if ordering in a group and it never seems worth ordering just for one person.

The online ones normally have a minimum order too.

Move to Edinburgh!

They used to deliver fish and chips and a bottle of wine. I'm not sure any greater happiness is possible in this life.

WorraLiberty · 17/05/2016 17:30

Ours do but only since they hooked up with Just East.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 17/05/2016 17:31

They'd go soggy. We never get anything delivered, minimum charges are usually too high and in the case of Dominos it's essentisl to check your order before accepting it as they usually get something wrong.

MiddleClassProblem · 17/05/2016 17:32

Don't you normally take your fish and chips home anyway? What's the difference soggy wise getting it delivered?

WanHeda · 17/05/2016 17:32

All ours do, it is our most delivered takeaway!

Leeds2 · 17/05/2016 17:34

Ours don't, although other take aways do. No idea why.

I have read on MN of people having an ice cream van come round at a set weekly time, selling fish and chis.

EatinAintCheatin · 17/05/2016 17:34

none round here do - have wondered this too

Bogburglar99 · 17/05/2016 17:35

They do round us. It doesn't arrive any soggier than it gets in the time taken to drive from chippy to our house. Chippy is very close to us though and not sure I'd chance it with a further flung one.

WreckingBallsInsideMyHead · 17/05/2016 17:35

Have had them before through work so a big order, wasn't the best fish n chips tbh

Roomba · 17/05/2016 17:36

There was only one in my town which delivered, which was brilliant. However they stopped delivering a couple of years ago - not sure why - and I'd love somewhere else to do delivery!

SymbollocksInteractionism · 17/05/2016 17:37

Ours does, and I really fancy a chippy now!!

Pinkheart5915 · 17/05/2016 17:37

The one in our nearest village does deliver, it's a minimum of £10 order but with 2 fish & chips, mushy peas it's over the £10.

Roomba · 17/05/2016 17:38

Just seen the previous post about an ice cream van style chippy. There was a guy who had a van who did chinese food locally. You told him what you wanted and he stir fried it fresh for you - fab food too. He had two or three regular spots that he moved around each evening, so not quite the same thing, but it was great. Sadly he's retired now.
